Titanium rotary blades -- and silly me

The other day I bought a package of titanium rotary blades from Nancy's Notions. I loaded my rotary cutter and began using it. I was really unhappy with it because, while it cut, it seemed even harder to use than the old replaced blade and left a little narrow strip along the cut edge of the fabric. After continuing to work, trying to figure out if I was just not using it right or something, I finally decided that it was defective and started changing it back to a regular blade. When I took it off, I found a wad of narrow fabric strings in the cutter. But here's the funny part. I found had accidentally put two blades on the handle. I took one blade off and stored it away and found the titanium blade was just wonderful and sharp and cut through six layers with no trouble..but only using one blade at a time.    Silly me! ops:

I think this kind of thing happen a lot--Alex has told a similar story. Good to have the reminder.

Very funny and extremely easy to do. I am always afraid I am going to cut myself when trying to separate the blades.

Yep, I did that once with the standard blades. I could not understand why I had a narrow sliver until I took the cutter apart to find 2 blades.
I wasn't aware that there are titanium covered blades until your post.
        Thanks,

I'm afraid of cutting myself, too! I take the blades out of the package, hold them in the center, then slide them apart and drop them on to the table where I'm working. Using a tweezers, I pick up one and lay it in the cutter. I have the tweezers I got with my serger that are at an angle at the bottom. I wish I could draw in this program, but I think you get the idea. They have helped me in tight spots a LOT and I love them. I haven't cut myself using this method since I thought of it.

I have not used titanium rotary blades so I am going to ask a silly question: are the blades attracted to a magnet? If yes, you might consider using an old canning tool, the magnet on a stick. Have you tried removing the blades from the package while wearing gloves?

Been there, done that! But, that was because I bought a one blade package, and figured I had ONE blade in the cutter. So, after a little frustration, I was delighted to know I now had an extra blade. Evidently, it is hard for the manufacturers to separate them, too! Dawn

Just discovered this topic in the Forum...for those of you who have used the titanium blades, do they last longer than the traditional ones? BJ said she was easily able to cut thru six layers, which is great...how about the longevity? Thanks! Nancy

Jilly, I bought mine over the Internet from Nancy's Notions. You can probably order them from there.

Nancy, I'm still using the first one and it doesn't seem dull to me yet, but I haven't done a huge amount of cutting.
