Designing Lightening Bolt Zig Zag Setting in EQ6

I have EQ 6. I am trying to design a quilt using a Zig Zag or Ligtening Bolt setting. Does anyone know how... it is not in their library of quilts. I have been stumped all day I tried several method but none seem to work. The custom quilt setting is not working well either for this task.... ANY IDEAS?

I also have been trying to figure out how to make a KALEDISCOPE block to use as a block setting other then try and scan blocks in .... any suggestions for this problem.

    Thank you

    Anna

Are you trying to make a lightening bolt across the whole quilt?? Like on a diagonal? Or individual bocks. I am trying to visualize what you are trying to do. Maybe you could make a block using the patchdraw, then set your quilt for a single block the size you want. I have my eq6 book infront of me trying to get an idea of what could be done.

I just found a lightening strip when I searched lightening in the block library. It is under 2 contemporary strip piecing. Could that be what you are looking for??? If you put in zig zag, you get more options.

This is the picture of my GF's quilt with the zig zag setting. I am trying to do something similar but I am only using one color for my setting. She had made it this way to 1/ higlight the zig zag in order to allow students to visualize the change in the setting pattern better and 2 / She pulled out colors from her blocks and original fabric.

I have never done a setting like this and I AM SO LOST! I thought sleep would help me figure this out but so far no luck.

        HI LadyRags,
Is this quilt similair? maybe there are clues here... to me it looks like the red corners forming the zig zags are actually triangles.

Yes that is the setting... I am just not sure how it staggers... I am going to find out this morning as I have class with Kay....

I just hate not having an idea of how to fix this myself.

            Hi there again,
I tried to roughly draw lines over the quilt as I think it *might* work. I think it is a diamond in a square .
            Warm regards,
            Karen

OMG  I am doing the jig. I have figured out how to design this in the EQ6. Now let see if I can convey the info. It looked to me like there are 1/2 square triangles between the blocks to give it a zig zag look.

              New block easy draw.
settings veritical 8 inches horizontal 1inch. I figure 1inch per block.

snap grid 16 both vertical and horizontal. graph Horiz. 8 Vert. 12 Thats just what it was set at.

THen I drew lines. starting at 0 and 1/2 inch, drew a line to 1/2 at a diagonal, then criss crossed to 1 1/2 and so on until I had a row of diamons with 1/2 square triangles along the sides. color and save.

THen I drew a second row block only this time starting at the corner 0/0 and proceded to 1inch 2inch like the previouse block, colored and saved.

Now I went to new quilt and clicked on Vertical strip and changed the # of strips to 5 . Once that was done I simply added to new blocks just made alternating and voila. Zig Zags.

Square in a square is probably easier, but it might look better if there is a design in the triangles with the stip piecing.

I'll try to put a pic. in my profile.

Thnaks cjbeg..... that sure looks like it is correct.

I found out I sewed my blocks incorrectly.... I SHOULD HAVE SEWN THEM TOGETHER ON THE DIAGONAL..... I had sewn them together vertically. I figured how to cut out the fabric I need to finish what have. I will make the blocks using 10 inch half square triangles with an extension making a templet of the pattern piece I need. It will work but it will be kind of wonky....

If wonky works for Ricky I guess it will work for me... Necessity is the mother of invention.

How true. Methods may be right for others, but there is always more than one way to "Skin a Cat" as they say.

I will try the yeast remedy for ants in a few days. Weather isn't cooperating.
But it is a good day for sewing. Yeah a little "Tilda time".
