    The new Sidewinder

This is a neat idea, a separate bobbin winder that is very portable and easy to use. I had trouble at first getting the thread tension just right but if you follow the directions exactly it works great. Of course I did it my way the first few times and the problems were of my own making. When it says to put the thread thru the bobbin hole, there is a reason for it. At first I just held the loose thread end until it caught. After a few tries it works perfectly. I know this new tool will be used and not have it sitting in a drawer.

Just check it out before you buy it. I have been told by a friend who works at a quilt shop that it does not work with all types of bobbins. Apparently, for example, there are some problems with the green plastic Husqvarna ones.

I just don't get the point. My machine winds bobbins just fine. If I'm using a different thread for the bobbin, I just have it on the separate pin for other threads. I don't have to unthread my machine to wind the bobbin.... Bernina Artista 200 E.

I'm sticking w/ what I have... unless you convince me otherwise.

Many machines that use the drop in bobbins, you have to have the machine threaded to wind a bobbin in place. Some machines don't have a separate bobbin thread spool. This new tool will eliminate that. So far it's wound every size bobbins I have and it's one cheap keep the bored child amused for quiet a while toy.

I agreed with Joyce until I was making crazy patch blocks for a swap and the bobbin winder on my machine froze up. I was able to get a Sidewinder at Jo-Ann with a 50% off coupon. This thing works like a charm! It winds bobbins much faster than my machine ever did and I do believe that it does a better job than my machine and my machine wasn't cheap! It saved me because I was needed many filled bobbins to complete those crazy patch blocks.

I will have to get my machine into the "doc" but I know I will be suffering withdrawal without it

I just ordered one of these as well. My Bernina's wind bobbins beautifully, but I detest the bobbin winder for my HQ16. Actually I wind the bobbins for it on my sewing machine, and just hold the lever back so it fills up, but I'd rather have the Sidewinder in the quilting room with the HQ16.

I picked one up to sit next to my frame and love it!! I often use different threads for top and bottom, so I just load up the sidewinder with one and the machine with another. Helps to not have to adjust my machine for bobbin, then back for sewing.

I loved it so much, I picked one up for my craft room upstairs. I use it to wind the bobbins for my Viking and my Featherweight. I was told by my Viking dealer that its not good to wind the bobbin through the needle (even though it was designed to be wound that way!!).

I did find that my first SideWinder doesn't fill the bobbin all the way, so I have to move the arm and press the green button to have it finish winding. Of course, then I have to be careful not to overfill :-)
