I created my own big board ironing board cover out of plywood. I cut mine in half and routed in hinges so it folds to 28x15 when not in use or when I'm traveling for quilt fun. I sewed my own cover so I can replace it.

Regarding the #57 foot, I think it might have to do with wear on the feed dogs on the 9mm machines.

Ruth, it can wear on the feed dogs. But here's the deal: feed dogs aren't espcially expensive to replace, and it would take a lot of sewing with the #57 to do significant damage. So weigh the "risks" and make your own decision. I use mine on my 200 all the time, no worries.

Regarding the #57 foot for the Bernina..........I don't know why it took me so long to buy one. It has made a world of difference in my accurate 1/4" ability.

Soren2go..... So glad to hear this! I bought the foot yesterday after reading about it here. I could use some help..... I tend to drift.
The lady at the Bernina store told me since I have the 5mm machine I'm good to go. Although she has the 9mm machine and uses it with no problem.

Thanks, everyone! I think I'll try it. Along with that really cool couching foot.

I asked my Bernina dealer about the 1/4" foot w/ fence.

She said she wouldn't recommend it. It is just for beginners and is sort of a hassle to the rest of us.

I've been quilting for 22 yrs. I am happy w/ the #37 foot.

                What do you think?

                  Joyce,
I've only been quilting eight years, but I have come to adore the #57 foot (Bernina 1/4" with the fence). My piecing accuracy has improved a lot.

If I use a nice, thin thread (Aurifil, Presencia, Masterpiece, etc.), use my single-hole throat plate, and snug the needle one notch to the right, then I get a perfect scant quarter inch.

Also, as you can see on the Bernina video, it can be used for no-pins curved piecing.

                  IMHO. Sharon in Colorado

See... so many of you love it! But doesn't it seem odd my dealer poo-poo'd it?

I wonder if I should just try it. Maybe I could resell it if I don't like it. Maybe I need to buy it from another dealer!

It is just that when I go for my BOM & Emb Club I get 20% off. That is why I like to buy there!

I love my fence foot, Joyce. I can't imagine piecing with anything else anymore. It made a huge difference in my being able to get things to match. If you don't like it, there is always e-bay. But I'm willing to bet you'll love it. I think some people might think of it as cheating? Just my opinion. Gloria
