Black and yellow ribbons or just Yellow?

If anyone cares to read and reply to this.....

Does anyone know if you are supposed to put yellow AND black ribbons up or just yellow in memory of a soldier killed/in support of his family? My daughter working on the other side of the state saw on Facebook where you are supposed to put up black and yellow so she asked her sister at home here to put some on our mailbox in support of the local family whose son was killed in Afghanistan Saturday. The daughter working also graduated with him. His name was Brian Backus. I just wondered what the "correct" way to do it is. Anyone know?

On a different note, it's raining cats and dogs here right this minute! We needed the rain but not sure all at once is what we were thinking of! Oh well, you can't reason with Mother Nature.

I am putting borders on DD's bargello quilt. Then we need to pick a backing so I can get at machine quilting it. Then I have two I want to put on the frame. I DVR'd the U.S. Open golf tournament and have been doing the berries on the Baltimore Albumn border while I watch it. I already know Rory McIlroy won.

Kathy, I'm not sure, but you might try asking someone through the CONTACT US link on the Quilts of Valor home page: http://www.qovf.org/

Kathy, I put the question up on the Army parents forum I go to and one of the admins said there isn't a set color, but suggested black as it's a universal color of loss or red, white and blue. My prayers for this family.

      Hugs,

      Darce

Thanks for checking, Darce. And yes, Margo, Quilts of Valor is a good spot to check. I didn't think of that -just kind of did an internet search. I will check there just to see what it says.

The soldier's hometown here has yellow ribbons tied all over the place. His parents were out of the state when the notification came and had to be told by phone by the police chief.

During the Vietnam incident--boy am I old--we put up yellow ribbons for those who were MIA. I would think black would signify the loss of a service man/woman.
