MQX East - a WIN and ribbon questions! :)

Is anyone going to or currently at MQX??? I just found out late last night that a client quilt I worked on won first place in group quilts! AHH! I am over the moon just to be included next to the owner on the winner's list on a first place quilt - but I have read that MQX is one of the few shows that does award a ribbon to the quilter as well. Does anyone know if this is true? I worked my butt off on that particular quilt (seven weeks on my frame and more than 100 hours in quilting) and I'm so happy to see it win such a big prize, I would be OVER THE MOON if it came with a second ribbon too - but I know this isn't a super common practice (YET - it should be IMHO)...

OH - and of course I want to beg for a photo!!! I am late to ask but I didn't anticipate in my wildest dreams that our quilt would get blue! So so so happy here - even to be "just the quilter"!

That's so exciting. Congratulations! I hope you get a ribbon and a picture.

Thank you Karen - and ME TOO!!! I am happy just to have my name on it...but a ribbon would be absolute icing on the cake! LOL **fingers crossed***

Well done why not ask the owner of the quilt. I bet she's jumping up and down as well.

Do you have a photo of your own to keep us going

She has never entered MQX and the teacher who helped her (who has and even won at MQX) isn't sure either! LOL But yes I'm sure she'll be very happy about her win!

I do have a photo but waiting to see if I can't get one with a ribbon to share!!

Personally, I think the top maker and the quilter are both the quilters on a show quilt and should both be included in any announcements and ribbons. Congratulation!

I so agree with you Betty Jo! I know that it is not the standard yet but I thought I had read that MQX did this. However I was just sent some pictures of the quilt and I only see one ribbon hanging so I suspect that I may be out of luck this time around. I am tickled that I got to be included on the winner's list as the quilter and that my name is hanging on that card there...what an honor!!!

Now cross your fingers for me...I hope I can do as good with one of my own!!!

I don't know a thing about competitions. But I often follow information regarding who's winning at the big shows and it just seemed to me that piecer and quilter were equal partners in the deal. I think that's the way it should be, but I don't know the rules.

Aside from that, the quilt is beautiful and you should be proud and excited. I think you need to consider raising your rates!

Thank you so much Lois!!! I so appreciate your kind words!

Being a long arm quilter who does a lot of show quilts for clients I really DO hope that a standard develops where the long arm quilter is awarded a ribbon too. I know that the shows that actually do it are few and far between - and I thought MQX did do this, but it may not be something they do for this particular category. I worked hard on this one and I am thrilled to see it win! I know that Barbara also put many many hours into the top as well - I am honored to be a part!

Beautiful quilting and love the design of quilting and piecing. It must have been so nice to work on it. Congratulations again

Valerie, a huge congratulations to you--the quilting is gorgeous! I, too, wish shows developed a standard to reward both contributors to a quilt's winning.
