Paducah 2015
I have my room booked, my plane tickets purchased and I am counting down the days until my very 1st visit. Can anyone add advise or sites to see other than the obvious show, museum etc? We rented a car on the advise of friends so we are mobile.
Thanks for your input!

We decided to go to Paducah in October to get the "lay of the land", and be there when it isn't crazy with the quilt show. It is a pretty little town. Make sure you have a "grocery" list for Hancocks because it was overwhelming. My mind went blank when I opened the door, it's a huge store. Enjoy the show, trip, etc.

Here are some things not to be missed: Ricky's show at the Carson Center, Eleanor Burns shows (google Quilt in a Day), the downtown area is a beautiful walk, the Rotary Center has quilts on display, Hancocks of Paducah. Study the AQS website. Edyta Sitar will be at the show, there are a variety of classes available for every interest. Yes, definitely try the strawberry shortcake from the boy scouts. If you have time to volunteer as a white glove person on the show floor that is fun. You get a free show pen, but you are still not allowed to touch the quilts. It is more just policing the area to be sure no one else touches them or leans on the posts. There is so much to see and do, limited only by your time there and your energy. Wear comfortable shoes!!! Hopefully the weather will be nice. I have not heard of any predictions of flooding there this spring. They have had a lot more snow and ice this winter, but that should be gone long before the show. Have fun and enjoy the show. It is wonderful!!

Congratulations, Nancy!!!!! How exciting! And Barbara, I'm envious. I got to go last year for the first time and I had a marvelous time! I can hardly wait to go again, but it won't be this year. Besides those things already mentioned, the Rotary Club also has a quilt show (and vendors!) and last year, they had a batch of the Hoffman Challenge quilts there, and those can be spectacular, too. The Episcopal Church has a lovely luncheon one day, and there was a lace-making demonstration there. I don't know if they have it every year. I think other churches have lunches other days. One thing I missed was Eleanor Burns's shops. I also missed the Yeiser Gallery, but I hear that usually has a nice textile show. Ricky's concert was fabulous! The Paper Pieces store (in Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry's former place) is just a block or so from the convention center. I imagine they'll have a nice display, and they're still carrying Caryl's fabric. One of the empty stores downtown is turned into a vendor mall, so watch for that. Just soak it all in and enjoy yourself!

Congratulations, Nancy! You go girl!
BTW, if anyone does take a picture of Nancy's quilt for her, stand back a ways and get some other quilts or people in the picture. I have asked others to take pictures of my quilts in a show, and that's exactly what I have gotten. A picture of just my quilt.......which I usually already have a few of. It's fun to see what is hanging next to it, or people admiring it. Just a thought.
One of my favorite Paducah pastimes is driving around town and looking at the dogwoods and azaleas. Some years it is breathtaking, other years the quilt show is just a bit after the peak of the blooming.
