    question about Paducah, KY

My DH and I will be driving to Kentucky in October and was trying to decide to take a side trip and go to Paducah. I know the quilt museum is there, but I know very little about Hancocks. I am sure it would be worth the trip, but just wanted some input from all you wonderful TQS members. We only have a day and then still need to get to Cincinatti, too. Thanks, Sharon

Just be aware that Hancock's of Paducah is NOT one of the Hancock's chain stores, nor is it a cute little quilt shop!!! It is a warehouse, and it's a great place to surround yourself with quality fabric choices! And not just quilter's cottons, but beautiful home dec fabrics too, if you are in the market for those. Here is their on-line catalog, but there is nothing like seeing all this fabric in one place! And I always stock up on batting when I'm there.

The National Quilt Museum is fabulous....especially if you manage to get there when it's not too crowded. I don't enjoy it during the AQS show, but much prefer it when it's really quiet! Almost a cathedral-like atmosphere!

The museum is worth driving across country for. Hancock's is overwhelming in its selection of fabrics but is also not to be missed. Go, enjoy and have a safe trip.

If you stop at Hancock's there, which I think is certainly worthwhile, be sure to get to the back room where all the bargains are. Also, be sure to pick up a store catalog because you probably won't get a chance to see/buy everything that you might like. The catalog may make for fun reading on your trip.

Drive safely and have a great trip!

Ditto all the above. Neither should be missed!

Thanks to all of you for the great info. Hubby is willing to out of the way to get there and I appreciate the great advice. We will be leaving around the 6th from Colorado.

This was a perfectly timed thread. DH and I are leaving for Nashville on Monday. I looked at the map and realized that Paducah is only 2 hours from Nashville so we may go there on a day trip from Nashville.
