:twisted: I had so many thing that other people wanted me to do today. I NEVER thought I would say this but " thank GOD for ice storms". Everyone has called and said "don't worry we'll do it later" . Now I can pin and bast some quilts maybe even start the quilting process. What a shame. I might be able to do sommething I want to do.

We got about 2 feet of new snow yesterday, with drifts of 4-5 feet. My Escape is buried up to it's windows today, so I'm just going to sew till it melts...

Hmmmm..another good reason to have a large stash. I don't have to leave the house!

I was so happy to have the day to myself. No appointments No demands Yeah right. WHAT WAS I THINKING? I have kids and it is sunday. NO SCHOOL :x All day long MOM ....MOM... MOM I couldn't even stitch in the ditch without making a mistake. Sooooo I just smiled and remembered this time is short and to cherish it. So we watched Harry Potter and cuddled on the couch eating popcorn. I guess the day wasn't a total waiste. Maybe tomarrow will be my day to sew. Sew long Rachel :wink:

I am so jealous of all of you with SNOW! We've had a horribly WARM winter this year! I know it's not over, but it's harder to appreciate a good snow day in March... or worse yet on Easter!!
So instead of staying home for a snow day, I'm home today w/ a child who managed to get suspended from school! (um, yes, you might know him... little trouble-maker!) but hey, there's times any excuse works!
I'm plodding thru on this cathedral windows quilt for my neice. I hit a roadblock and had to let it sit a while, but am now back to full speed, which I need to get this done by June... so a full day will surely help!

I hope our dear little "trouble maker" (I am guessing the one with the cowboy hat) didn't get suspended for either his creativity or his had ----- that would be a shame ---- sometimes our lives get complicated by rules that shouldn't be there so I hope he broke a really IMPORTANT rule

but Florence give him a hug from this adoptive grandma and tell him that he is loved by me even if I might not approve of what he did. He is a pretty special young man and there are not many like him around. I know you cherish him no matter what but let him know others do too.

To all of those out there who think that snow is neat or cool. Correction it is sloppy and COLD!!!! I decided to make my first quilt because my hubby kept complaining that I always had a blanket around me. You see this way I could say "but honey I'm quilting." He being a fellow craftsman could not complain. So "HA" I fooled him and my who family. Now they just think I am a quilt junkie and a sewing fool. Well yeah I am but I am also freezing to death and they don't want to turn the heat up past 65. I think their brains are frozen. By they way I can sympathize with you and your suspended child. My 14 year old doesn't like to get out of bed in the morning. So he gets to sit in detention quite a bit. About every 4th day. I tell the boys the van leaves at 7:55 if your not in it you will be walking to school. Well he gets to walk quite often lately. Oh well he will either learn to move quicker in the morning or learn to love detention.

Many years ago, my daughter (who is now 40) was suspended from school for fighting with another girl over a boy. Yes, I said fighting - overturned desks, etc. She swore the other girl started it. Needless to say, we came down on her pretty hard. She was always trying our patience and was a real spitfire. Today she is the mother of five children and a pre-school, special ed school teacher in the Chicago school system. She is strict with her children and is a lovely woman. Now if I could just get her interested in quilting - she has never liked to sew. Mary in warm and drizzling Mississippi.

I have tried just about everything. His grades are diplorable and he doesn't really care. All his teachers say he his attentive and he is the model student in class. He answers questions appropriately when asked and he usually correct. The problem HE IS POKEY! He walks so slow. He works so slow. Snails do laps around him. He knows how to move I've seen him. I am about to do what my mother did to one of our foster kids that had issues about going to school. One day she went to school with them and sat there with them made them answer questions made them take nutricious food for lunch. By the time lunch was over the kid promised never to skip school again. Any other suggestions for alternatives? I'm open, I really don't want to go to school. :?

My oldest daughter is also a poke. I have tried many different things to motivate her to get out of bed and while I will not say I have it mastered there is one thing I have learned - nagging will get the opposet result every time! If I start repeatedly reminding or hollering about how much time she has she literally will slow down more. Really - it has taken me all of Kindergarten, first grade, and the beginning of this year to figure this out. Now instead I sort of tease her out of bed by reminding her of something she wants for that day - a special tv show or maybe class she likes like Media. If I can't think of anything I will just make up a joke or tickle her to try and put her in a good mood. Once she is up I am hands off, with little more than an occational reminder of the time. She is handling herself much better in the mornings now that I am not hovering on her.

I had the same problem. Bought both girls an alarm clock. Set it for them, told them if they missed the bus they would walk to school. If they didn't go to school--outside activities would not exist. They did much better. The problem was keeping my mouth shut and then standing by what I promised!

Ritzy I gave that a try several times. I have taken things away bribed them. The only trouble either gives me is moving is the morning. I look at things this way, at least he is getting his homework done in a timely manner during detention afterschool. When he complains I tell him if he would move his butt in the morning he would have loads od free time. Oh well by the way I have just finished pinning 2 baby quilts lastnight. Tonight I hope to start my moms project and a dress for this summer. I don't know though it has been a looooong day. Talk more tomarrow Rachel

Too bad my mother isn't on this site--it would be interesting to see what she'd write about me!

I'm 49 and still hate to get up. In the past three or four years my mother (when I stay with her) has finally decided to just let me sleep for as long as I like. I don't know what finally persuaded her to give up, but something did! And I'm certainly happier about it!

She still can't stop herself from telling me to put the book away and turn out the light at night, though. Long after I think she's asleep, I'll hear, "Anne, put that light out!" coming from the other room. Once a mother, always a mother, I guess.

Anne, there are Owls and there are Meadowlarks--you and I are obviously Owls. I prefer to get up at the crack of 10 am whenever possible, and stay up until 1 or 2 in the morning.
