I thought I popped in with thanks for all the birthday wishes, but now I don't see that post. Weird.

Had a wonderful weekend! My boys treated me to some of my favorite grocery store treats that I never buy myself --- cheese Pringles (too $$$ for every day, believe it or not), a yummy cappuccino mix, and a bar of white chocolate. Yum! then we had dinner out at a good Tex-Mex place, and I did get some sewing time in --- I pieced together the back for the quilt, out of our recycled blue jeans. Turns out, denim is heavy!!! LOL!! My quilting mentor said, "well, yes...I thought you knew that?!" Nope. I mean, I did, but it didn't really dawn on me, LOL.

So that's done and now time to work on the rest of the border so I can sandwich and quilt. I managed to arrange the denim in a way that it fades from light to medium to dark, so that's nice Pics to come later on.

Thanks again for the birthday wishes You guys know how to make a girl smile!

Heather, you might consider not putting batting in this quilt if you are using denim as the backing. He might get under it and not be able to move. That is not taking into consideration that you have to move it through the sewing machine to quilt it. Just a thought.

oh, definitely not putting batting in it! Although methinks the idea, which started as him wanting a lighter quilt so it won't be too hot here in Brazil in the summer months (when he'll be away from us), thus using denim and leaving out the batting, might not work out that way in real life......

                        Borders on!!!

The back is ready to go, the top is finished, all the little corners mostly lined up!!, and so this weekend I will (hopefully) get it basted & start quilting. We have an extra dog for the weekend, and I usually don't sew when he's here, but I really want it done before we go on vacation next week. So, we'll see. Wish me luck!!

I'm going to try to do semi-curvy lines, with the walking foot, if I can manage. yes, test pieces first!! Anyway, borders are on and man did they require concentration!!! So worth it, though. I think this is my best quilt top yet.

Love how it is all turning out, Heather. While this may be your best quilt yet, you will have more to come. You're fearless!

Thanks, all! And Renata --- definitely! I have 2 more "for me" projects in the closet, plus 2 gift quilts, plus several other ideas.......just need to list it all out and see what I can realistically accomplish between now and our move. I do think being self taught is a help, because I have no one to tell me when I try things that should scare me, and I don't know enough to recognize those things on my own, lol! All in all, yes, I am just getting started!
