Treadle sewing machine

Ricky,

I just picked up a treadle machine at a auction. It's a New Home and the last patent date on it is 1879. It needs a belt and a good cleaning, other than that it's not too bad. I'm looking for information about using this machine. Any good web sites you could direct me to would be appreceiated and any tips on using it would be great.

Carol, Ricky is at the show in Oregon, but I don't think he would be able to help you with this. You might want to contact TQS member Pat Nordmark who knows a LOT about the older machines and can probably direct you better.

I wish my mother had told me when she decided to throw out her Singer Treadle. It was in excellent condition and I would have loved to have it. Enjoy that machine!

Hi - while I DO have a treadle sewing machine out at Autumn Rock (I have not tapped into electricity out there) I would not have a clue a to tell someone where to go to have a treadle serviced other than just a regular sew and vac store. Anyone who knows is welcome to chime in.

I have had lots of help from TQS members with web sites and info. Now, I need TIME!!

But, I am determine to get it going and sew at least one block, (maybe more on it).

When I bought my treadle machine, it was frozen up and no parts would move. My brother (who can fix ANYTHING!) oiled the parts and put lubricant on the gears and it ran beautifully. Needless to say, I still haven't sewn on it because I don't know how to fill the bobbin that looks like a bullet! ops: Anyone know how it works?

I know what you mean, mine also looks like a bullet. I took the bobbin out and I'm not sure how to get it back in LOL!!. I'm hoping to have some time this next weekend to work on it. That's in-between the many projects I have going. "some much fabric, so little time"

I have 2 treadles. I recommend a search on YouTube. Several people have put up useful videos including "madfishmonger" who has one on winding the bobbin for a boat shuttle (which is what I think you have).

I have found 3 1 is 1903 singer for 190. the other is a white for 120. then an other singer for 120. they all need a new belt. Dose any one know if these are good pricees Happy

sounds like they are about right for price. I bought a 1906 New Home in perfect working order. Price was 195.00, but was brought down to 175.00. I bought it at an antique dealer.
