"PLEASE NOTE: The licenses for these College products are for personal use only. They are not for resale. Manufacturing of any finished product for resale is not allowed." This is the notice Hancocks has posted for their sports team fabrics when I ordered a University of Tennessee fabric. I have seen similar warnings other places. My friends will not go to the fabric store and personally purchase the fabric for her quilt but the cost of fabric is included in price I agreed to make it for. So technically am I not making a finished product for resale? I'm sure I am over reacting but I'm curious. Sandy in TN

Hi,
I've been reading the responses people had to the quilt which won a prize and was a copy of one of Ricky's quilts. Of course it is beautiful, the original design was beautiful! A great deal of the award should have gone to Ricky. I am an artist, and I know I would have been hurt by someone else using my design, especially to enter into a show, without asking my permission. Hours of hard work go into creating the design part of a quilt. I am currently learning the quilting process, so I know handiwork takes a lot of skill, as well, but I would be embarassed to copy someone else's design, and execute it in my own refined handiwork. I would feel like I was cheating, and not challenging myself to come up with my own design that expresses my own sense of beauty and creativity, and my own personal life experience. The artist was cheating herself, as well, by not giving herself that experience. Also, I believe it is illegal to copy another's design, without their permission. I agree the quilt is beautiful, and was wonderfully executed, but she should have left it at home, and created her own design for the show.

Originally posted by RickyTimsWell, what I DID was write a book that would teach you HOW to make your own - or, if you wanted to attempt a copy of one of mine, you would have the tools to do so. I do back flips with each Rhapsody quilt I see made. The fact that Angie made a copy of Bohemian Rhapsody tells me that that particular quilt has really inspired her. I personally know how much effort went into making mine - so I applaud Angie for having the vision, and then following through - that's a gold star in my book. Unquote
Since Ricky is OK with it, I'm definately OK with it! Not everyone has his creatiave gift! But we still love to create with the needle! I for one, am glad he is so generous as he frees the rest of us to piggy-back on his gift!
