Eileen that's truly not unlike the mini-convergence I made for the blocks for Ricky's birthday, Ann had suggested Purples & Oranges, 2 colors I barely OWN they're so NOT my favorites... but that's what I did, and popped a black Cowboy hat silhouette in the center. Put a tiny black border all the way around then used the orange & lighter purple/pink as the second border. (ok, now that it's no longer a surprise maybe I can post it in my profile, but just got back from a trip that will have to be done later) I'm sure you'll come up with something that'll make it speak nicer to you! ya' know, we gotta start somewhere

I was looking at Ricky's site and at the quilts in the book. What about if I turned it on point and went from there? DD Keri says to stay away from yellow and look at fiery reds and oranges. What say all of you? I'm getting the itch

I don't know why you are disappointed-- I love the colors! Turning it on point will give you some large areas for applique or great quilting!!

Your quilt is stunning...how about a photo to fabric print in your border of one or two headlines on global warming (if you would like to make a statement with your quilt.

Eileen, I LOVE your convergence.....maybe you should use one of the dark colors for the border and have some designs from the corners spilling into the borders. You should be very proud!

I LOVE the colors and the vibrancy. And I would just play around on the binding with the colors........maybe do a high contrast piping........just play till you like it. That's what I've learned from Ricky. If you don't have a 'vision' today, play around until something looks good.

Or give it to me! I love it.

Eileen, I think your convergence is excellent! You should just find a large print for the border that has orange and blue, maybe a floral? I'll bet you could fuse a few extra flowers extending from the border onto the rest. It's VERY orange (I like that) and maybe you just didn't realize how orange it would be. Keep it for that special someone that you might someday meet who loves orange!

OR, it reminds me of space and maybe you could find a border print like that! Nancy in NY

I, personally, love the colors in that quilt. Here is another thought, don't put on any borders. Stretch it over a picture frame and staple it to the back and hang it. Quick and easy. Judy

Eileen, I'll gladly let you have my address, just in case you can't live with your gorgeous conversion!

I have seen several convergence pieces as WIPs, and they all suddenly came to life when the border(s) were put on.

Another thing to remember: Do not have any pre-conceived ideas of how your convergence will look. It simply won't work that way. The strips and shapes do their own thing, so to speak.

Scrolling through the forums and came across this thread.
I really like yours! The colors are very similar to the one I made as a gift, "Sarah Shines", on my profile. I decided to use strips of leftover fabric from the quilt and miter the borders, and did them asymmetrically.

Did you decide how to finish it?

I think your quilt is beautiful. I used oriental fabrics on my first one and I wasn't happy with the way the convergence part turned out. However, I remembered what RT said in the book about not being too upset with it until you border it. Once I figured out what to do with the borders, I loved it. Keep trying til you find something you like!!

                                Eileen,

It's a wonderful quilt. If I were choosing the border, I'd audition some of the darker reds in the quilt. Sometimes I guess, you just have to keep going in a quilt to find out how nice it really is. Cheers, Betty Jo
