Are we talking cobwebs here or what? Of course in my house we don't have such a thing - I am up before first mass every morning with me feather duster in one hand and me shillelagh in the other. You will have to figure out what I would be doing with a shillelagh and if you don't know what that is look it up in your funken wagon!

Thanks, Rita. It's a few years old because I have have slimmer glasses now, but I think its the best photo I've had of me for many years. I wish that there was some way of seeing someone's previous profile photo when they post a new one. I'm sure we're not the only one's who see a new picture and think 'I know the name but what did she look like before'

I hope you are not squashing all the 'money spiders'!Originally posted by ReetzbobeetzAre we talking cobwebs here or what? And by the way is your funken wagon, the same as my Dad's 'Funk & Wagnell'?

Rosemary unless your dad was in a funk rock band it's likely it's the same. My mother used to call it a funk'n wagoner! And as for the money spiders - no I am not squashing them they fled with all the rats and the fat cats when the Celtic Tiger dropped dead from pumping too much concrete into the land.
Lottie, you have to say me shillelagh not my shillelagh to be properly stage oirish!

 Funk rock! -that is definitely not my Dad's style. After the war his mum, found a good offer on a 2 volume Funk & Wagnall dictionary, which she bought for my Dad, as he had passed his 11 plus. Her reasoning was that because it was 2 volumes it must be a good one. Unfortunately for my Dad, it is an american dictionary - hence the cheap price in London! (and Dad's excuse for not being able to spell very well  )Originally posted by ReetzbobeetzRosemary unless your dad was in a funk rock band it's likely it's the same. yup, butter: "Shillelaghs are traditionally made from blackthorn (sloe) wood (Prunus spinosa) or oak.[1] The wood would be smeared with butter and placed up a chimney to cure, giving the Shillelagh its typical black shiny appearance."
apparently the molten lead is optional, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shillelagh_(club)
