Looking for good quilt shop in Edinburgh Scotland

I would welcome any suggestions for quilting shops in Edinburgh Scotland. I am interested in those that are worthwhile since I'm only there a short time. Thank you for any help. Vicki

I have just googled quilt shops in Edinburgh and can only find a fabric shop which sells quilting fabric and notions. http://www.mandors.co.uk/ They have shops in both Edinburgh and Glasgow. Hopefully one of our Scottish quilters may be able to give you some better information.

In leafy Berkshire, south of England.

I've read about Mandors in one of my sewing mags a year or so ago, and the write up was very positive, it looked like a good place to go.

If you're going to Edinburgh, there are all sorts of fantastic specialty shops all along the Royal Mile. But quilting fabrics????? NO!! You want some fine woolens and sweaters. That sort of thing. Just explore, enjoy where you are, and, if you can, make a reservation to eat at "Martins" - probably my favorite restaurant in the whole world! Martin will greet you at the door. Order the cheese platter for dessert. Martin will explain each cheese, and tell you which farm - which COW the cheese came from. Wool!

I'll definitely try Martin's. THANKS SO MUCH!!! It's so wonderful getting advice from someone who's been there. Vicki

Mandors in Edinburgh is a shop that sells all kinds of fabric for dressmaking and a section for quilting. I haven’t been to the Edinburgh store but the one in Glasgow has started to stock a large range of quilting fabric. Although the Glasgow store is the main store, I would imagine the Edinburgh one stocks the same fabrics.

There is a really good one at Linlithgow, which is 3 stops on the train from Waverly train station (not that far). It is beside the station. It is a dedicated patchwork and quilting store. There is also another fabric store and an embroidery shop in the town and it has some nice eateries. It is also a historical town. The shop is called Purely Patchwork and is at 23 High Street, Linlithgow. EH49 7AB Tel: 01506 846200 http://www.purelypatchwork.co.uk

            Hope that helps

              Hello,
I have been to Mandors in Glasgow, but not Edinburgh. The Glasgow shop has curtain fabric, dress fabric and a quilting corner. The Glasgow shop stocks some Liberty fabric in the dressmaking section.
Also there is a quilting shop outside Edinburgh in Linlithgow called 'Purely Patchwork'
              http://www.purelypatchwork.co.uk/
Linlithgow is a short train ride out of Edinburgh and has a lovely Palace.

While there are some UK fabric suppliers I think the majority of quilting fabrics will be American which are comparitively more expensive.

There may be other fabric shops in Edinburgh but since I live on the West coast I am not in Edinburgh often.

This site has some other information.
              Hope this helps,
              Nan

Silly me, ops: I should have added that if you are in Scotland in May, the Loch Lomond Quilt Show is on 18th to 20th May and there will be traders there. http://www.lochlomondquiltshow.com It is held in the churches around Dumbarton. There is a train from Edinburgh straight through to Dumbarton and takes about an hour.

I live in Edinburgh and have to agree with the quilters who suggest going to Purely Patchwork in Linlithgow. Unfortunately we haven't had a dedicated quilt shop in Edinburgh for a few years now. Mandors do sell quilting fabric but it does not stock as much as Purely Patchwork. I hope you enjoy your visit to Scotland's capital, lots to do and see but sadly (very sadly) no proper quilt shop!

I'd look for woolen tartan fabrics. I always like to get a little of something that's typical for the area that I visit.
