I like the fact that they're offering classes in crafts other than quilting, such as Irish lace, Aran knitting, pottery, etc. And DH likes the fact that the organizer is planning activities for non-quilting significant others. I love Ireland, and can't wait to get back there. It's been 21 years, so it's high time I returned!

I am one of the Irish members of TQS - most of the Irish members are very quiet on the forum and they have next to no information about themselves or photos. Wake up Irish TQS members! It's time for us to get together for the IQFOI. Mind you, probably most of them can't afford the prices of the workshops and I don't know what the admission will be but the K&SS at the RDS in Dublin this November was €15. Add that up over three days and before you have done anything else you have already spent €45 (about $58US). We are in the midst of a terrible recession over here with unemployement at 500,000 and that from a population of only 4 million approximately!

I have signed up for classes each day and I hope that we can all get together somehow. I live 3 hours away from Galway so it's not easy for me to organize a get together dinner - this is where a TQS Irish member from Galway needs to step up to the plate, please. If that doesn't happen then I will see what I can do. I really want to meet some of our other members from around the world. Rita.

            hello folks
just booked & paid my hotel
my friend daniela and i opted for a 2-room apartment at the menlo parks apartments: http://store.iqfoi.com/accommodation/
checkin thursday 7th june - checkout sunday 10th june (we have to be back in switzerland for work on the 11th...)

now i just have to organize our flights (first we have to decide how long we can afford to stay in ireland beforehand) and rent a car...
unfortunately not a lot of cheap flights to ireland... we'll probably end up flying to dublin and doing a b&b tour for a week or so before the show... ending up in galway and heading back to the airport on the 10th in time for our flight home...
            YEAHHHHHHHHHH !!!!

Lotti, it is wonderful that you are going to Ireland for the First International Quilt Festival there. Since you are such a fantastic chronicler/photographer of journeys, I look forward to your sharing with us your visit to Ireland and this quilting historical "first!" Renata

Lotti, I have all my classes and seminars booked and I can't wait! I am waiting to hear from some of the Sew'n'Sews before I book accommodation but I will probably go for the same one as you if there are a few of us. If it's just me I will probably stay in the town. It will be great to meet you, I hope? We will have to wear our TQS badges so that even if they don't have a meet and greet stand we can recognize each other.

Rita, absolutely. i've also been looking through the program - am in the process of talking daniela into buying tickets for Ricky Tims' sat night performance.
but i noticed they also have a pub-night... which is actually available every night - if we can't manage a dinner for the TQS'rs - why don't we try to get everyone who's interested booked into that on friday night - then we could all join up there?
from the menlo park's description they are only a 15 minute walk from the town centre...
and as we'll have to drive back to dublin on sunday we will also have wheels
we havn't made up our mind on the classes - i'll go for something that will also interest daniela as she's not overcomfortable with the english although she understands a whole lot more than she'll admit - am thinking on ricky's convergence & rhapsody - should know more within a few days
do absolutely definitely want to meet up with you & my TQS badge bag is ready & waiting OH SO SO SO FAB !

Rita and Lotti, I agree with Pam. Ricky's concert is a must. You will love it. And it will make the whole trip worthwhile, even if there was nothing else at the show. I'm sure you will have lots of fun. Wish I could go to the pub with you.

Has anybody entered a quilt into any of the various categories for the IQFOI? I just noticed that Carol Moeller has a miniature juried in. Anybody else? Anyone thinking of doing anything in time. I noticed that they seem to have extended their closing dates into March now, it was February. I would love to do something but I keep getting distracted by other things. I would particularly like to do a miniature as I have never done one. There is also a 'Chocolate Decadence" one which I might try for.

Go for it, Rita! It would be lovely to see a picture of you, standing smiling, next to your quilt - large or small.
