    Have you been framed? !!

Hi everyone - now that I have got a decent thimble sorted out I thought I would ask for other people's opinions on frames! I personally own pretty much every different one on the market (!) including hand held of different sizes/shapes, a round frame on a circular base that sits on the lap, one that you sit on, the tubular plastic one.... I find it very difficult to get on with any of them. Which frame do you use? I would like to master quilting using a frame, as quilting without seems like cheating and also I hate to be beaten by anything - I believe Jeana Kimball quilts without - but one of the problems of working without a frame is that it is difficult to get to the centre of a biggish quilt. Are you talking machine quilting or hand?

I have ordered a HALO from Sharon Schambers and am awaiting it's arrival... it used to help machine free motion quilting. ... I do not hand quilt.

I use a very old (probably at least 75 years old) frame that my grandfather made for my grandmother. It is just two boards with fabric that the quilt is pinned to, rolled and then the boards are clamped onto sawhorse type ends. My mom gave it to me when she got a new frame. I have also used my mom's frame which is very nice and easy to use and store--it is sold by Heartland Quiltworks-- http://www.heartlandquiltworks.com. These are both for hand quilting. I don't use a frame to machine quilt as I just have a domestic machine.

Sorry, don't think I can help. I use the tubular kind but I pull the quilt very tight because I use a stab stitch when I hand quilt. I don't seem to have any wrist aches doing it this way.

I enjoy hand quilting, sometimes I use a frame. I don't remember who makes it. It has a stationery bottom with the circular frame able to rotate. I prefer to quilt without a frame as that was how I learned and find very relaxing. Pat

I have used lots of different hoops and frames but my favorite is 18 inch dia. on a floor stand. it tilts and rotates 360 degrees and the base slides right under the edge of my easychair for comfy stitching time. Also takes up less space in my living room where it stays up all the time. The Thimblelady frame is nice but small and the
