First I put my design on some DecorBond; cut it out and fused it to some fancy dress material that I had on hand(this stabilized the material so it wouldn't give me fits and it made it very easy to turn my edges under). I machine appliqued the pieces in place using monopoly and a very narrow, close zig-zag. Then I bought some craft threads that were meant to be used to make friendship bracelets. It came in all kinds of bright colors and was heavier than embroidery thread. Make sure you are sitting down--I hand embroidered all of those stitches. I was inspired by Mary Corbet's lattice stitching that she was using on a sampler (this is all Lynn's fault because she is always getting me distracted with fun things). I stitched until I was happy and then put it together and quilted it. There are French knots, back stitches, and all kinds of other stitches on there. I am glad you like it. I wanted Limbania to have something happy to look at and there are lots of prayers stitched into that little mug rug.

Norma,
Thank you so very much. These both have a place on honor on my design wall. My mail forwarding got mixed up and some of it was left in my mailbox at home rather than here in my winter home (yes, I know winter has come and gone but a major water pipe leak up there has forced us to stay here for another couple of weeks until all gets put back together). Anyway, went home for a few days to wash, organize and put stuff away but checked the mail box and lo and behold, this was in it. Not sure how long since it really arrived but it's home now

Ritzy, I had responded to your beautiful embroidered mug rog for Limbania, but the computer ate my answer  I recognise those laid patterns from Jacobean crewel work and it is not something that I would ever have thought of doing for a mug rug... You have given me whole new avenue(s) to explore in relation to mug rugs - oh my!

Jane, I'm so glad that you found it. I was beginning to worry a bit, because I sent yours at the same time as Limbania's and Renata's. I'm glad you like it.Originally posted by golfjaneNorma,

Sorry to hear about the pipe problems. Hope they are solved easily.
I have not been on the forum for 3 days because a friend of mine has a depression and I was there to keep her company, trying to ease all the problems that occur, when the mother in a family can't do anything for a period.
So, Ritzy, your work is fabulous. I was pretty sure the stitches on Limbania's were hand made. Thanks for explaining.

Dear Ritzy, thank you is not enough... But I don't know any other word to express my gratitude. I knew the flower was all hand stitched. Love every single detail of it. And now, after reading how you made it, makes it even more special.
Norma, another beautiful mug rug and card! Love the colors and the embroidered flowers.
Jane, congrats and enjoy your gorgeous mug rug.
As I write this I'm getting chemo #6. Seeing all this awesome art pieces and with your wonderful company makes it so much better. What a group of talented ladies you all are, dear mug rug friends!!!

Acchhhh! I have just had the worst struggle to get a binding on one of my mug rugs and it came out the worst binding I've ever done!!! I just don't know why...everything seemed to go wrong and ended up with awful corners. I did finally get one on it, but I'm thinking I need to remake this little mug rug. Too bad, because the center is not bad. Sue, I'm afraid it's yours.
ops: I see all these gorgeous little quilts you all are making and am amazed. I did think this was supposed to be quick and dirty...um quick and easy...I guess I'll use this one for my own mugs and start over.    Good thing I got this bad binding out of my system...on to better bindings. LOL The funny thing is that this came just after I made the best binding with nice square corners on my blue print quilt. At least that came out right. LOL
