Lotti....about that S & T quilt. It was shown by a gal who was working in selvage strips !
All the lites are edges saved from yardage. There are a couple of books on the subject and
in general, any string quilt could use combinations of selvages. Waste not, want not...as Mom
used to say ! That pic sparked me, too ! Cold here today..20 degrees ! 10 days ago
it was in the 70s!

Hope every one is staying safe out there on the East Coast ! What with the storm and getting to Houston
preoccupying our thoughts...I decided to post my thought on last weeks' challenge photo from Lotti. Don't
know but I guessed that we were looking at the top of Yo Yo Ma's head ,hand and cello. Lots of round, curved-line
things... My rough design has vase of flowers....vase from the cello scroll and yo-yo shaped flowers. Browns and
blacks on neutral backround...I can see lots of embelishments happening and yo-yos added to the flowers and musical
notes in the quilting...my table top is out of proportion...can fix that later, too.

Marilyn, what an interesting take on Lotti's photo and beautiful composition and colors. Like Lois, I'm focusing on other things with the hurricane just a few hours away but have time to log on and check what you all are doing in the meantime and was very happy to see your Chinese Whisper!

Marilyn I love what you have done. Clearly, it is on a Victorian plant stand. 8) And it looks perfect to me. I have to confess that I got sidetracked on a Halloween project so I didn't get around to doing what I intended. And, to my embarrassment I had not realized that it was Monday.ops: We are on a mid-term break so everyday feels like the weekend.
But I can tell you that I had planned to do something with maples and spruces as these are the two main woods that they use in the making of cellos and basses. I was thinking of deconstructing the elements in the photo so there would have been maples, spruces, spectacles and a trainer. How I would have put them together I am not at all sure.

I'm only too aware its a monday.
My ideas for making a quilt was inspired by thinking about what the person playing the instrument looked like from a more conventional angle. Where were they and what was the occasion? What was it they could see that we couldn't. I hadn't got any further in developing the idea.
Anyone else?

Wendy, my initial idea, in part because of the blue sneaker in the photo, was jazz cello playing at the Montreux Jazz Festival, which was very close to where I stayed in Geneva when I was part of a negotiations team, so I thought of a poster-like funky jazz ensemble in a kind of art quilt with some very bold colors on a purple background fabric. For me that would take so much to put on paper, but that was the spark that came to me when Lotti posted the picture, hence my comment wondering out loud how I would get it on paper...
