Seeing as I am still working on Caught red-handed, and have a shopping list for Great Northern quilt show, I won't be cutting fabric until September..... eeekkkkkkkkk!

By the way what hangs best on walls? wool or cotton batt?

    Comment

I feel like cotton holds the weight of the quilt on the wall better. If I want puff, I use a cotton base layer and a wool top layer.

I agree with Nancy on the use of wool for adding puff. I don't have enough experience to say what works best for hanging on a wall. For me, it was a toss-up between cotton and 80-20 cotton blend for the CW. In the end, I used the Quilter's Dream 80-20 cotton-polyester blend. I did some research on what well-known quilters use in shows and what some of my favorite exhibitors used as well as called the folks at Quilter's Dream and that is how I ended up with a toss-up between cotton and cotton blend. I'm sure part of it is a personal preference.

I really like warm and natural. I've used it for my wall hangings. Haven't used wool for a wall hanging yet but I think it would be nice. It has a memory and helps creases from folding fall out I hear. I think many of the prize winning quilts are something like warm & natural with a thin wool bat on top. I wonder what Ricky used in those ones you saw hanging. Whatever he uses is thin and it hangs nicely.

Now I understand..missed a sentence !! ops: I've made more wall pieces than anything else...
I don't like Warm and Natural because it holds a crease , but is great for table ware as it is flat and
launders well. Generally , if a hanging is supported with a rod pocket...top and bottom if necessary..
and is flat with no side ripples....any batting is good ..8o-20 blends, wool generally lower loft...bonded
polys like thermal lam lay very flat to the wall....I just don't like the stiffness. Gets right down to
personal preference !! Wool is my favorite...tho' I don't always have it on hand.
All just MHO , of course.

Yes, Wendy, I can sympathize with you. I 've been blocked out of my Amazon account for weeks. I must say that is not as traumatic as being blocked out of TQS would be for me.... That would likely to push me right over the edge.

I am happy to say, Welcome home, Wendy.

I also can report that as of this evening I am now able to order my favorite quilting books, supplies & notions from Amazon.com once more. I can't tell you how many chats I had with their techies, but I can tell they just don't hold a candle to our very own "Bob the Tech Guy" from TQS! TQS is the BEST!!!
