'Wot RoTT' exchange

Wot RoTT exchange quilt top is complete. The picture does not show it all... it is eight blocks across and five rows down. Once I decided what to make with the reels, this quilt was so much fun to piece. I think it was so much fun because every time a reel went under the needle, with all the papers still attached, I recognized all the frequent contributors to the Forum and felt I truly had received a block from a friend. After a while, I knew your blocks without even looking at the names! As for those whom I did not know, I felt I had to look you up on "Find a Member," to know a little more about you and the quilting you do--sometimes I learned a little more about the contributors to my quilt, sometimes I stared at a blank profile, but in the end, as I look at my quilt, I feel the camaraderie and friendship that this quilt came from.

The next step will be deciding whether to keep it as a throw or add another border for a queen sized bed. After watching Jacquie Gering's episode the other day, I am pretty sure I know what the quilting is going to look like... I will post again when it is completed.

Thank you all for this wonderful WotRoTT exchange. A special thank you to Rosemary and Lorna, without whom it truly would not have been possible!

That is really beautiful, Renata! I love your sense of color! I would have a tough time deciding on the final size, too. I would probably make it into a lap quilt so I could fondle it and look at the reels while I'm awake. Although having it on the bed would give you sweet dreams!

Renata, I love this!! You did a great job on the layout and the color frames! I even see my reels!! Can't wait to see what your quilting looks like on this!

Wow, It is amazing how different your's looks, are you joining the Modern Quilting Guild too? Bet it was fun pairing up the reels (and I bet there were some that just didn't match anyone elses too) cannot wait to see the whole thing.

I've managed to make some more advances. Tomorrow I will have to do some un-do-it stitch, as I had a brainstorm this afternoon, semi-trashed my sewing room to find a special piece of fabric and did yet another re-design (no I am not counting). The room has nearly recovered, and I am happier that I know where I am going with it and think that I will have enough b/ground fabric after all.

Renata, it's absolutely fabulous! I love it. What great couplings. And I know exactly what you mean about getting to know people through their spools. The quilting you are planning will be perfect. Congratulations.

Terrie, love the new profile photo.

Wow, thank you all!!! I posted the photo and ran out the door only to return home this evening to your comments and it felt really good, like I should hurry up and make the backing and start quilting! I don't think I've joined the Modern Quilt Guild yet--the reels just felt right for this kind of project and so I followed my instinct. I kept on looking at Edyta's spool quilt, and even though it is lovely, I could not imagine it in my house. But our big sectional couch is a dark rust color and as a throw, this quilt would be perfect--with the added benefit that I would be using it, looking at the reels and reminiscing with great affection for all of you. Since it is a rather large throw, I could still use it on a bed too. Funny you should talk about looking for a piece of fabric, Rosemary... I tore up the house for three days looking for the graphite grey solid I had purchased for the the frame of the darker reels and finally gave up and picked the grey with flowers that you see in the quilt from my stash. I dropped something the other day behind my cutting table and when I bent down to pick it up, the bag with the grey fabric was back there too... after I had already finished piecing the blocks... Terrie, your grandchild looks so happy in your arms and you look so happy and beautiful!
