Margo,in reading your comments on washing your oh so beautiful quilt, you mention washing in cold water to get the Crayola Washable Marker chemicals out. In the past you've also mentioned that you starch your top before marking and haven't had trouble. I want to make sure I totally understand the process before I start marking any of my quilts with Crayola markers!! I've learned so much from you and admire your quilting so much! Beverly

Nana
I recently finished a "Love Thy Neighbor" pillow that I marked with the Crayola markers.
I had not starched or pre-washed the fabric first. The marker came out of the fabric easily.
It appeared that the embroidery floss then picked up the color and that took a little more
soaking in cold water and even some light scrubbing to get out the last of the marker.
I'd test on a sample first, but you should not have any problems.

Judy posted good advice! When in doubt...just do a test! Take a small piece of any fabric you are concerned about and mark it with the markers. For the test, I would mark it with EVERY color and really scrub in the marks. If these come out with a cold water soak, marking lightly on your quilt should be no problem!
I marked "It's a Small World" with a dark blue marker on fabric that had not been starched, and it all came out just fine.

Margo, Your quilt is absolutely stunning and so appropriate for the exchange!
Per Crayolas....I, too, have used Crayolas with little problem. However, I once marked a quilt that had a scrappy background that included some lower-quality white on white and cream on cream muslin. The print was the kind that had a gloss to the printed part - almost plastic-like or stamped on. Those little prints absorbed the marker color and I have been unable to remove it completely. So, if you are using low-grade fabric, there might be more of a problem.

Dwynette, it's probably the surface print that is the problem more so than the fabric itself. If you think the other fabrics are stable, you might try soaking the quilt overnight in cold water. Sometimes that will help with stubborn marks.
