I couldn't wait! I had to play! I saved back one or two of each HSTs grouping I made, and cut them in half, then halved them again, so I can make a very small quilt. (This gives me a light square, a dark square, and two HST) Then I played. There are repeats in my "play" scrappy star, because I do not have all of the wonderful HSTs that I will receive from all of you. I made mostly subdued HSTs, but am hoping to recieve a variety of colors! I have a feeling ANYTHING will work! My finished star will measure 3." (You can click on the picture for a larger view.)

The star looks beautiful, Dawn! It's a great idea to get a feel for working with these very small squares ahead of time. I can't wait to see your finished project!

I am sorry, do I understand correctly that you cut the 2' HST in half twice and it gave you two HST and Two Square blocks? And you are sewing something so tiny? Way to tiny for me.Originally posted by ScoopieI couldn't wait! I had to play! Dawn,
Are you planning on doing these tiny stars for your entire HST quilt or were you just trying it out? Since I still struggle with accurate 1/4" seams on large blocks, I can't even imagine working with such itsy-bitsy pieces that look so perfect. You must have very good eyesite and a very good light on your machine...plus a lot of patience.

I have only done paper pieced minis. This will be different, and probably a challenge, but I'm up for it. I love small detail work. If you go to (I think) the blog before last of CMOELLERS, you will see a quilt that she did for her sister. (Or just hang around and Margo will majically make it appear!) That is what I plan on doing. I think this quilt will lend itself perfectly to the randon HSTs that I will be receiving. Oh, do you recognize any of the fabric in the picture?

Dawn, I love your little experiment...saw the earlier blog and Margo's illustration, but it's great to see it demonstrated...can't wait to see how it turns out! Nancy

I'll see if I can figure out where it is on the blog (since I'm a little blog challenged)...or I'[ll check back to see Margo's magic as appeared! Your quilt will be absolutely incredible! And, yes, some of the fabric does look suspiciously familiar!!
