Postage Expensive,
Hi, I took my 200 strips to the post office today, but it is going to be way to expensive to post. There is a $9.00 fee on top of the postage to get it into the states. I took some out so only will be sending 90. I can get that posted for about $15.00 au.
It weighs 370 grams. Can you please give me an address so I can work out how much USA. postage will cost.
Also the Post Office has a voucher type thing that I can purchase and send to USA and you can change it for stamps. Are you happy to do this, or will I take Margo's kind offer of sending her the money for postage via paypal.
Look forward to hearing from you so I can get my strips posted.

For some outside the states (or even in the states), postage may be a bit much to participate in this particular exchange of batik strips. You just need to weigh the benefits of doing so. It's kind of fun to see what strips you can get in return, but you might be content in just purchasing your own choice and be happy with that. Just my opinion.

yeah - did my 200 strips last night...
worked till 8p.m. - quickly home - sorted out all my batiks - ironed the lot -
200 strips (6 - 10 of each different fabric - and one each for myself) - sorted the colours - folded each strip in 4 - counted - recounted - cut some more - counted again
bagged each colour type (difficult with batiks - so many multi-colour variations) - finished by 1a.m. - alarm clock again at 6a.m. ouch!
packed up a parcel (1 almost finished quilt for my eldest nephew - candy for the nieces & nephews - and my bag of strips) 9.4 kg... wow
sent the whole lot off to canada by post this afternoon
now i just hope it gets there shortly after i do myself.
will then check & repackage the strips - take my dad's car for a drive accross the border (they live only about 10 miles from a vermont border crossing) - and post my strips from post office in st. albans - where they should be able to help me pre-stamp the return envelope for my exchange strips to travel back to me in switzerland...
sometimes the easiest way is the most roundabout...
why not just take it all with me when on saturday next week you might well ask?
my nephew's quilt is big, bulky, quite heavy... once i'm over the 5 kg marker the cost for the parcel is the same for up to 10 kg... so i pack it with all i can - gotta get my money's worth don't i...
and the chf 77 postage is one heck of a lot cheaper than the overweight charge on overseas and connecting but separate inland flights (got to do the customs on point of entry and recheck for connecting flight... therefore also repay the extra luggage grrrrrrrrrrrrr).
am i writing a book - seems like it - Barb, will let you know when the parcel is finally off to you - by first class U.S. post
wishing you all a great day.
off to our monthly jazz-night double yeah! yummy dinner - great company - fabulous music - tripple yeah!
enjoy

just back from our jazz-night - fabulous old-new-orleans-jazz this time... too bad i'll miss next month - but as i'll actually be in new orleans that night - i guess i shouldn't complain.
thanks lori - am so looking forward to all the stuff i'll be getting from all of you.
actually - the only reason my strips are taking such a wierd and roundabout route is because i'll be visiting my parents in march before going on a business trip to new orleans - if this hadn't fallen quite so nicely into the time-frame - i probably would have used the internet to figure out the postage and sent the cash to pay for my postage... or organized the stamps via someone or other somehow - there's always a way - we just have to find it and think positive (and my specialty apparently is to find the wierdest way possible - without actually resorting to a pack-mule and crossing the andes - now that would be way too much work.) rambling again - would be better of getting some sleep for a change ... have a great week / weekend everyone
