WoW! Some of you have sewn and shipped already. I'm still waiting for my papers to arrive. I have afeeling most people will deliver early. That'll give our dear sisiter sorters more time for the task at hand! We are serious about this - but what fun too! So glad to be a a part of it!

Which flat rate box did you use Carol? There is a little one that ships for $5.20 and several larger sizes as well as some envelopes.

I am so excited about this!!! Have been wanting to do an exchange for a long time!!! I only live about 2 1/2 hours from Houston. I would be happy to help with the sorting if you need another pair of hands! Let me know! Love the idea about printing the info from the HST's on fabric and using it either in the quilt or as a label!!!! I am going to do that too! Working on HST's this weekend!

If you are interested in participating in the sorting, which will be in the Houston area mid April. Post that you are interested and I will put you on another list. I seem to be the queen of lists lately. We kinda have to the mass we are dealing with and how best to tackle it, so I won't have enough to tell you now. We do know how we are going to sort (so, don't worry about that and NO I won't pull out the cement mixer no matter how tempting.). Basically, if you want to help, Great. Post it and we will note it. Let you know more details later. This is going to be a cool adventure.

Today when I was reviewing guidelines and also ordering my paper for the triangles, I noticed a reference that some people may have signed up under the wrong subject. I thought I had sent a comment to the Sisterhood of Traveling Triangles. I am planning to participate but didn't find my comment in your pages 24-26 Jan.

Here is the big number you have been waiting for. We have 615 quilters involved in this exchange. Can you believe it?!

Here is more numbers on the countries involved. 66 Quilters joining us from USA, Canada (22), UK (6), Ireland (1), Scotland (1), Finland (1), Norway (1), the Netherlands (2), Australia (27), Panama (1), South Korea (1), New Zealand (1), Germany (1) and now Switzerland (1).

The numbers for the all the countries do not add up. If you add up the numbers of the quilters from each country is adds to only 132. Am I missing a number here. Possibly the number of the USA quilters is wrong.

That would be me typing under not a lot of sleep. I meant to start a new sentence with "Quilters from USA....etc." That's what you get for staying up too late. Ooops. Thanks. Margo caught me too. Clara

'Hogwart's' Station is not too far from me - Goatland station on the North York Moors, but I've never managed to see the school from there. I guess you will have to do it 'handraulicly' after all :lol:

I believe the size was 12.5" x "15.5" x "3". It was one of those no charge (Free) boxes that you can get at the PO. It cost from Iowa to Texas to mail - $7.90. The clerk give me $7.90 in stamps to but in the box for the return trip. I would say I probably could of stuffed another 100 to 125 traingles in the box. The small problem I had was the air in my Ziploc bags. I had to deflate them to get all the air out. ops: so they would fit. The PO Clerk was curious what was in the bags so I had to explain to her this HST exchange. She knows me. Usually when I bring things to the PO it is something we need to mail to a lab for testing, like serum or tissues. I usually have Bio-hazard labels on the boxes and they are packed in ice..., well I think you get the idea. She was a little relieved knowing what was inside the bags was not animal parts. She then got very excited just hearing about it. She can't wait to see what I plan to make with them. She was amazed at the numbers of quilters that are doing this. It is going to be so much fun. Well I better get back to work. I just had to check to see what was going on and if there were any new developments :lol: .

I hope that helps with the box size and cost to mail for those sending around 700 HST. It should be less for those with not quite so many.

Years ago I worked in a fabric store & whenever the owner had a dilemma, she would gather us together & say, "talk this
thru with me" & we would listen to her & after some discussion a solution was found.
So, ladies, talk this thru with me:
I don't think you need to wait until you are innundated with all 5 hundred million thousand (as my 4 yr. old grandson might say) HST's.
It seems to me that you can start sorting after receiving baggies from 28 different participants (aka P). Mark each participant with a number. Lay out the HST's from each group, that is the HST's from P#1 thru P#28 for a total of 28 stacks of 28. Start compiling one from each stack for a collection of 28, put this in a baggy & mark with a post it note 1 - 28. When you receive baggies from P#29, she/he gets a bag of the 1 - 28 collection. When P#30 joins the party, they will get a collection. Until you run out of the first collection, which will be the one given to P#56. Then you can start another layout of HST's from the baggies of P#29 thru P#56. The collection from P#29 thru P#56 will go to each member of group P#1 thru P#28.
Will this work to just keep swapping from groups of 28, one to another?

Upon reading this it sounds ridiculously confusing.

Hi, I'm getting ready to sew my HST. Just one question. Should all the triangles i sew be the same two fabrics? I plan on making over 100 HST's.

That might be the easiest way to sort through 5 hundred million thousand HSTs, but there are quite a few of us who are planning to send at least 615 HSTs in hopes of getting back one from each contributor. Thinking about how to do all of that makes my head hurt! I think that Debbie and Clara and whoever they can talk into The Sorting Event deserve lots of chocolate, and an adult beverage with fruit and umbrellas! :lol:

But only AFTER the sorting is done! :wink:
