Please bear with me as I am off topic again. So, I was at the fair this morning and went to see how the other grands did with their project. DGD--the Whining Queen--not only received a first place ribbon, but she received a Champion(purple ribbon) and an invitation(orange ribbon) to go to the State Fair.
Lorchen, since 4H is trying to encourage kids to get better at their projects they usually all get a ribbon of some kind. Blue(1st) if they have done well, Red(2nd) if not so well. Only first place can vie for Champion and only Champions can be invited to go to the State competition. Do you think she is excited about doing more? Yep.
I said, "you know what that means" and she said,"yes, I get to go to State". I said, "no, that means no whining next year". She laughed. From the edge of Sherwood Forest, home of Robin Hood

WOW! But be your fantastic genes that are coming out in your granddaughter, Ritzy!
I didn't know about 4H, but I got introduced to the state fair system in 2002 when a friend who I visited during my only trip to the US insisted that I brought a piece of needlework with me (Elizabethan blackwork). It was part of 'Craft Adventure' in Springfield, the MA state fair. I expected to take the piece back home with me at the end of my holiday, but it had to stay for the New England Show a couple of months later (the curse - big grin - of getting a ribbon - my only one in anything).
And to get quickly back on track: That before my first ever exploit into quilting. But I returned from that trip with a rotary cutter in my suitcase. I had never seen one before that time.

Thats great Ritzy for both and you and your granddaughter are to be congratulated
Thanks for the info on the diet as I have been on one and lost 10 kilos but for the last month nothing else seems to be going off and have been a bit down about it, now at least I have an understanding, will have to get to it and keep on with it all.

Lorchen, have you been at the single malt again? Didn't you mean Keith? ( Just trying to pour oil on potentially troubled waters - Keith's mother would like that  )Originally posted by LorchenWohoooo, Jill, according to Kevin that about 1.5 bowling balls! I'm sure the other half of that second ball will also vanish soon!

Well--the granddaughter out did the grandma at the fair. I only got a first, two seconds and for the first time--a third. I guess when you consider I only took five items and got ribbons on four--I did well. It is very strange; the things I thought would do well only did fair or didn't win. Will show pictures when I get everything back.
