I love the stories...that's what attracted me to the book in the first place !! Rainy and
cold here today....maybe I'll load up the slo-cooker and sew a bit after the laundry gets caught up !!

When I got the book I read it all--the stories were so interesting. Are you going to make the quilt?

I would like to make it, Debbie. I have a few "have-to-make" projects to do, but I would like to make a block here and there. What I find hard is picking colours. I think I will try not to commit to anymore 'have-to' projects. That's why I end up with so many UFOs. However, I know quilting for others and charity are very important.

I like the idea of doing it along with others. If you haven't made it yet, and would like to, just let us know. I hope to start soon. I love the book so far. I seem to be ploughing through it, and maybe finish it tonight! I've looked on Google and there are so many variations giving varieties of looks and 'flavours'

Why not join Marilyn and I? And anyone else who wants to, just jump in. I see you can just make a small lap quilt that doesn't require all the blocks.

OK, I'm finger happy with shopping online and couldn't resist the thought of reading old stories, although Barbara Brackman's blog is helping a bit. I ordered the book and the eq cd, can't wait to see it, will read myself to sleep at night

Terrie-- Picking the fabric has me totally baffled! :? Guess I could go scrappy with a consistent background colour but any tips on this would be appreciated. Let me know when you and Marilyn start and I just might play along. Summer vacation is only a month away!!!

I will be using scraps that sort of follow the book....makes picking easier...and I like the color-way.

Although I like the original picture on the book, I think I'll go scrappy within my stash, and as I see stuff, along the way, maybe pick up a fat 1/8 or 1/4.

The thing is to decide on the sashing and borders, because I find that these areas will pull a scrappy quilt together towards the sashing or border colour. Craftsy has a colour theory course, but I've been waiting for it to go on sale, and as yet, in the last 6 months or so, it never has. I was thinking that if I picked 4 or 5 main colours, and then used a variation of one of those colours in a block, then there would be some harmony, although still scrappy. Any one who has ideas about this, please feel free to advise.

I have printed out Templates 1 to 14! I think I'll get my feet wet this coming week.

                  So, shall we begin, ladies?

A curious shape, it looks a bit like a Biscornu, but not quite. Which way around do you place it on your lap?

Marilyn what would I look for on that website? I couldn't find it while trawling through. I am toying with the idea of doing this quilt over a long period of time. I am sure it would use up a few scraps that I have lying around. But I have so many projects going on that I am trying to restrain myself....it's not working very well.....

Hhummmm? Well, go to site...find online catalog on the left side, go there..find Legacy Patterns
( it's the first one )go there and it is the 3rd pattern listed. Handwork Pillow... Hope that helps....

Rosemary....that is sort of the shape. I place a point toward me and the sloped sides are under my forearms.
Everyone would suit themselves I'm sure ! And the amt. of stuffing would vary, too. Mine is stuffed pretty firmly.
I used batting scrap and poly stuffing. It basically is two sqs sewn corner to straight sides
so there is some clipping and pinning involved. The top is 2 layers, quilted in a lg grid ...bottom is plain. Pocket
is a sq. folded and top stitched.

Very comfortable to use...for me anyway...surgery and "arther" on both hands can be a trouble some days !

Terrie, I am doing a Civil War sampler ( 2 blocks a month) at LQS..Babara Brackman...and have chosen to do it by
hand in 6" size. So doing Farmers Wife at the same time might be a good thing ! Should be able
to do a couple a week ! It was designed for hand piecing...tho you can do by machine.

There are some itsy-bitsy pieces that I think would get caught under my presser foot - I'm leaning toward hand piecing - maybe one or two a week.
