Looking for a guest speaker
Hi everybody! I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me. I'm on a committee to find a guest speaker for my quilt guild. The guild is in Northern Indiana, and we're looking for someone to come in to present a program of some sort. We still don't know what type of program, this is basically a fact finding mission. Have any of you seen a guest speaker lately that was interesting, motivating, and a good teacher? How about one that was generous with their fees, in other words, they didn't cost an arm and a leg? We only need someone for a few hours, but we can add a few more hours to our meeting if there is a workshop involved. Anybody have ideas? Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Nancy. We have had guild members present in the past. It is a great idea, but not the type of program we're looking for right now. We have money in our account that we want to use for a nationally known speaker. Thanks for the suggestion.
Beth, I will look into Ami Simms. I know she has come to our area to shop before (I saw her at Yoder's Dept. store the same day Ricky was there), so maybe she wouldn't mind coming to do a presentation. Thanks!
I'm still looking for other suggestions. I'm supposed to have information on at least two possible candidates when I go back to my next guild meeting. Thanks so much for your help!

Someone that I would like to present at our guild is Cheryl Sterling. She does awesome portrait quilts and was one of the early guests on a TQS Show. Her website is http://sterling-fiberarts.com/sterling2/ . Since she is located in Chicago, she wouldn't have to travel very far.
Also, Raymond Houston, of St. Louis, gave a great presentation to our guild. He's also been a TQS guest and is a teacher on Quilt University. His website is http://nachograndmasquilts.com/
A friend, quilt guild member, author and AQS quilt appraiser, Hallye Bone, has given presentations to our guild on quilt restoration, antique quilts and author of "CARING FOR YOUR QUILTS". She's a St. Louisan also, and you can find more info about her at http://www.thequiltercommunity.com/Wcf9f9493a877d.htm Her e-mail address is mailto:[email protected]
Good Luck!

Mickey Depre is a member here and a great teacher! She came to our guild and I found a new friend.
She wouldn't be too far from you either, as she hails from near-Chicago. Our workshop was on paintsticks but she has other workshops and her program that evening was terrific!

Don't forget the other guilds in the area to find out what they think of various teachers you can avoid some of the less effective ones. Also TRUNK SHOWS by various quilters in your guild / other guilds and your state. Contact your local long armers to see if there are any quilters who enter the Houston / Paduhca shows. The best trunk show I ever saw was a local group called the JENK sisters ... ladies from the Saginaw Guild who talk about the CHALLENGE AND ART QUILTS they made as a group. The quilts were great but the talk each quilter gave was a hoot.
The point I am trying to make, is look around your own area as well as the national quilt teachers links for your speakers.Jules~
