    Prairie Points - Bumpy Corners!

I have had a go at doing prairie points - I really like the finished effect, but a bit disappointed with the corners - because there are so many layers of fabric, when you get to the corners and turn the points to point outwards. the thickness of the seams causes a large lump on each corner, trimming off doesn't seem to help as it leaves tufty bits that are hard to cover with the backing when it is slip stitched in place. It is sort of alright I suppose, but because I am a fuss pot I can't help keep studying the corners and wishing they were better. Has anybody any tips please?

I will waiting to see what tips you get--I am thinking of adding them to a quilt I have started.

I wonder if this question is best posted under Member Blogs with pictures of the unsatisfactory corners.

I must admit I have never put prairie points on the edge of a quilt. By the time my quilts are ready to put some sort of binding on, I normally can't wait to get them finished and so I just go for a straightforward folded binding because it's quickest.

Jacky, I've never had that problem with my corners. I start at both corners on a side and "fit" my prairie points in between the corners, measuring between the POINTS of the triangles to keep it even. The corners form a diagonal or squared off look from the placement of the prairie points. I always hand baste the prairie points in place on the quilt top and then machine stitch down. I love this method and would use it all the time if I could!

Susan Cleveland has a pressing tool called Prairie Pointer. It comes with a yardage chart and tips for decorating prairie points. The directions are clear and there are step-by-step illustrations. Her website is http://www.PiecesBeWithYou.com. I hope this helps. Carolyn in Kerrville, TX
