    what type printer to buy

HI, does anyone know what type of printer is a good one for printing on fabric? We are in the market for a new one, and I would like to get exactly what I would use for putting in those fabric sheets to print pictures.
    Thanks
    Joan

I like my Epson because it uses DuraBrite inks that don't wash off or need special treatments.

Durabrite ink? Is is pigment based? Can I use it with my Lexmark?

I had never heard that before. Any Epson? We have an old hand-me-down rom my brother, Epson stylus color 880. Is that type ink for any printer?

I have an Epson Stylus C88 that uses the Dura Brite ink. It was recommended by Mary Ellen Krantz (author of Blending Photos with Fabric). She used it at a workshop I attended that was sponsored by my guild. I think it was around $100. I like it and it prints very well on fabric.

Textile artists who do a lot of printing on fabric normally recommend getting a cheap one that way you won't be too upset if something gets stuck in there. Also you don't need an all singing/dancing machine for this. You do need to make sure that it is an inkjet printer and not a laser one though. If you want some good advice from an expert you might consider sending Beth Wheeler an email as she has lots of good advice in her book 'Altered Photo Artistry' (screen name muttonhead). Maggi

Thanks everyone. I have lots of notes for my husband. and it might be a good idea to keep this old one and put it in my quilt room! Fabric getting stuck is one thing I didn't think about!

I have just bought my second Epson. I had an Epson Photo Stylus 600 which was a high end one and it just died when I put too light of a paper through it. I ironed out the paper the movers wrapped my stuff in. BUt I never had fabric jam it. As a matter of fact I maybe had 2 paper jams in over 5 years at least that I owned it. So I bought a lower end Photo Stylus 680 and it prints even better with the Epson Ink. Loving it. I like Epson.

I think the name could be an Epson made up name. But they only fit the Epson machines from what I understand.

I think it goes in all the Epsons.

I'm on my second C88 and I think we had a C86 before that!

Thanks everyone! My husband was very happy when I told him we did nothave to buy a high end printer, that this little one might just do the trick! We will get more ink this weekend and you might just see a quilt in my profile pretty soon!
