    Ruler Storage

Thanks to DH, I am finally finishing my quilting studo with walls and a floor. I am so excited. We ordered cabinets for the space today, so it will become a reality. Up to now, I've been using our unfinished basement which didn't help the creativity.

Currently, I store all my rulers on nails hanging from the unfinished rafters. This was handy since whenever I purchased a new ruler, a nail went up! However, with finished walls and ceiling, this will no longer work. I've thought about a peg board, but this would require some space behind it for the pegs.

Since we are in the construction phase, does any one have some nifty ideas for storage of multiple rulers of various lengths and shapes?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

A big ring then you should be able to use a hanger I was working in my room today and was looking for one but we do not have I need to go to the hardware store to get it Happy

I just got one at JoAnns for 40% off -- about $5.00 here. I also use it for the template plastic precut quilt designs. Works great.

I have a small wall between the closet and a corner, where I've put in some finishing nails and hang the rulers there. Where they are very convenient to the cutting table.

A co-worker made a hanging ruler rack for me in exchange for a quilt. Very handy! There's a pic in my profile.

Thanks for the suggestions. What a friend to make that rack. I'm not sure who came out ahead. A quilt is a lot of work.

I was thinking of some kind of peg board but I think it would look better with some type of trim around the outside edge to give it a finished look. I have a lot of rulers, and I want them to be handy. It was great to have them hang from the ceiling above my cutting area, but I think that would look tacky in my new room.

I don't remember where, but I saw a peg board with a frame that had some depth to it. Like one you could get at a craft store that would have an oil painting in it. It would be easy to hang and leave enough room for the pegs. thought about doing this, but just haven't gotten around to it. Cheryl

Probably too late for many of you with ruler 'collections' but I decided to purchase the Alto QuiltCut at Quilt Festival

                https://www.quiltcut.com/oscommerce/images/QC2small.jpg

and eliminate gathering all those rulers. Hope my reasoning was good. It seemed to do alot of the things one rquires different size and angle rulers.

                I LOVE IT!

I bought my Alto's several years ago, and have worn out 2 mats on it. I make a lot of charity quilts and it's just perfect for cutting lots of strips, squares, triangles, rectangles, just about anything, very accurately and with very little waste. Can you tell that I LOVE it?

I store my most-used rulers in one of those tabletop wooden ruler stands (long piece of wood with lengthwise grooves to hold the rulers up). Big square rulers, that I use only occasionally, go on a pegboard next to the cutting table.

You only need about 1/4-1/2" space behind a pegboard to accomodate the pegs.

I made a tall hanging bag just long enought to see my shortest ruler and about 8" wide and hang it on the wall. I store my square rulers and other shapes in a drawer, but You could also make a bag for that size and hang them. I put a piece of heavy cardboard in the back so it hangs flat and it only takes up that amount of wall space. They hang behind my door. I don't know if that would help or makes sence or not.
