kind of fabric markers
I presented this topic to the search engine and came up with 807 possibilities. No, thank you, I will go to my other sources. I want to know which permanent fabric markers are best to use on muslin squares that will be made by children using stencils and made into a quilt for Project Linus? I am going to have to babysit my youngest DGD for an hour or so and bring her to my sewing group so I thought she could do something quilt related and learn to give of herself instead of "me, me, me" all of the time. She is 3 but very focused and stays inside of the lines but with a stencil, she won't have to. Thanks. Judy in AZTags: None

Thanks again for the information, Frances and Lissette. I am trying to find the easiest way to do this.
If I use the pressing cloth after using crayons, will the excess get on the pressing cloth and how do I clean it or do I have to buy a new one? Are you talking about the pressing cloth you use when you do fusible applique? Am I going in the right direction here?
Why can't I use permanent waterproof fabric markers? Sorry I have to make such a big deal over this. I think I am really angry at my son for taking away my quilting time with my friends to babysit, but on the other hand, what kind of a mother would I be if I didn't help out my newly divorced son as I am the only family he has out west. Judy,
I did one of these years ago and I think I just used a piece of muslin and then threw it away. The permanent markers that I usually use for quilts (Pigmas) are rather thin. I don't know about fatter markers. At least with the crayons, she probably won't stain anything else around her easily. With the crayons, I would iron them until they don't leave a residue on whatever you are pressing them against, that's why I use muslin or you probably could use paper towels.

Judy, you could just let your DGD use the Crayola washable markers and then go back over them yourself later with the Sharpie Permanent Markers (fine point) since you're going to have her use stencils. That way everything can be washed off and you won't have to supervise every minute. I have these markers in blue, red, green & black. The tip says fine point, but it's way thicker than the Pigma Permanent Pens. Judy in Torrance

Good ideas, thanks, Pat, Judy and Stormy. I have put together other art blocks made by children for Project Linus and I don't think they have been touched up at all. Ages are put on along side of their first names and , of course, you really can see the difference. Sashing is then put in between the blocks and sewn together, border added and you have a quilt top. There are usually 5 rows of 4 depending on the size of the blocks. I usually envelope them and quilt them and top stitch securing the opening. In fact, we just had Project Linus this past Sat. and I brought home some to finish. Judy in AZ

Small world. I just had lunch with a friend who was on her way up to the cool mountains to teach a class. Guess what she was teaching? Crayons. She gave me the instructions and she uses paper towels and regular crayons and regular muslin, not ready to dye muslin. I guess this meeting was supposed to happen. I really believe that. So I have already cut 16 blocks of muslin for this project and I have the crayons. She suggested drawing around my DGD's hand and have her color that for starters. Judy in AZ
