Help! My quilt got stained in the wash!

I foolishly washed my non pre-washed bed quilt (blues and off white). Does anyone know how to wash out the blue stains? I read about a method in one of my magazines, possibly Quilters Newsletter, in the last 2 year but I can’t locate it anymore.

I wonder if Color Catcher would work or if it is too late. Give it a try. Buy it where you get dryer sheets.

I had a red, white and blue quilt bleed (even after it had been prewashed). I rewashed it with QuiltCare and Shout color sheets. It took 2 washes, but all the red came out. Good luck!

I've had some success using Synthropol (a liquid detergent used when preparing fabric for dyeing) and color catcher sheets together in the washer.

All your suggestions look good. I've used Shout fabric sheets to prevent color bleeding but never to remove it. Worth a try. I have'nt use oxi clean. I think what I saw in the magazine might have used bleach for colored fabric. Has anyone tried that? The use of Sytropol rang a bell although I don't know if I'm confusing it with Retayne. What's the difference? Whould you just wash the quilt with these things or would you soak them. What to do? My mind spins with so many possibilities.

KathyAnn, I have friends who have done this and they have had great success with the Shout color catcher sheets. Using a couple of them when washing the quilt again made the wrong colors disappear. Those things are great! Good luck!

I seem to remember Ricky telling a story about one of the fabrics in one of his quilts running badly in the wash and he told how he managed to save it - I think it was somewhere in the Stories link above, way back some time last year. It's worth a look.

Ok, I found the story and it didn't say what he used but if you are still interested in the story it was under the Stories link above and it was March 6th of last year "From Trash to Treasure."

Hi everyone - Ricky had a red and white quilt bleed and used Synthrapol to get it out. He said it worked great.

Synthrapol takes excess dye out of fabric and also keeps it from migrating to other fabrics. In addition to using it on my cotton fabric, I also use it when I wash any piece of dark clothing for the first time (like blacks or reds). It's great stuff and you only need a little bit (don't overdo it because it's still a chemical) - I also do a double rinse to make sure I get it all out.l

Retayne sets the dye so it's not supposed to run anymore. I don't use it very often because Synthrapol pretty much takes care of everything.
                      Happy washing!
