    California Bay Area Shops

Does anyone know of any great shops in the California Bay area? I will be traveling there this weekend. I would love to know where to find a great quilt shop. Or even a show!!!

Hi, Judy! I've heard that Black Cat Quilts is wonderful. I haven't had the chance to visit there yet. If you make it to the Sacramento area, be sure to check out The Pincushion Boutique in Davis, Quilter's Corner, Tayo's, and Bearpaws and Hollyhocks in Sacramento, and Quilter's Quarters in Stockton. R. Lilystem is also great and it's in Modesto. Sew Many Quilts in Tracy has a great selection of books and batiks.

http://www.quiltvisionusa.com has a great map of California Quilt Shops.

    Have a fun trip!

Thank you for the link. We aren't going that far north on this trip. I do enjoy hearing about quilt shops.

I like The Cotton Patch in Lafayette, Thimble Creek in Walnut Creek, and there is also one in Livermore whose name I can't currently remember. Closer to San Francisco, there is one in Alameda that is fairly new and I don't remember the name. Black Cat is also good.

If you are in the North Bay area don't miss Quilted Heart in Vacaville, Cloth Carousel in Winters and Cornerstone Quilts in Fairfield. There are also shops in Napa, Sonoma, Benicia and Petaluma but I'm not sure of their names. We love quilting in NorCal.

Judy I know it's been a while but did you make it to some of these? We're headed to SF next week for a combination family vacation & attending a friend's wedding, so I'm hoping to be able to get to at least one or two quilt shops while there! We'll be staying IN SF but Sunday will drive out to San Ramon so if anyone knows a shop or shops that might make a good detour (and be open on a Sunday afternoon) please share!
              Thanks, Florence

                Judy,
Where exactly will you be staying? That will help narrow it down a bit. It used to be the Bay Area was just the area around the Bay, but these days the Bay Area goes into the Central Valley!

I've been to In Between Stitches, in Livermore, because my daughter and family live in nearby Dublin. I thought it was a very nice shop, not really big, but well-stocked. Livermore is considered "East Bay" of San Francisco. (Also Alex's home town, but I never did see her there! )

Barbara, Judy started this post last fall, I just resurrected it for my own trip next week! I'll be staying near Fisherman's Wharf, but driving east on Sunday. I'm not all familiar w/ the geography so I have to google-map these places to see what's near what! Florence

                      Florence,
Since you are heading to the East Bay, there are two shops you shouldn't miss if possible:

Thimblecreek in Concord (they have a great website: Thimblecreek.com) They have beautiful samples everywhere and many designers such as Fig Tree, American Jane, Laura Nownes, and The Vintage Spool consider this shop their "home" and teach classes there regularly. They are open on Sundays.

Quilter's Inn in Danville (just up highway 680 from San Ramon). Lots of your kind of fabric, great samples, really wonderful employees/owners, and all located in the quaint town of Danville. They aren't open on Sunday. They were featured in Quilt Sampler for Spring/Summer of 2008.

These two shops are less than 1/2 hour away from each other. Definitely the best in the area. Also, the Cotton Patch in Layfayette is in that area and is very good.

In Stitches in Livermore (east of San Ramon) is cute also, but they aren't as big as the other three.
