This may sound strange... but I have been having problems with the sizing on the TQS 2012 BOM (printing problems), so after "unsewing", I thought I might try to repurpose the remaining (unused) block into something for this project. My mother has Alzheimers, and it is VERY difficult, so this challenge is near to my heart. I love the colors I am working with for the BOM, so I am hoping I can make it something meaningful to me, and beautiful (?) to others...

An excellent idea! My only caution is about sizing - one side of your finished piece must be 9" or smaller, so if you want to keep it square, it has to be finished to 9x9.

A suggestion? Single blocks can look a tad boring when they're just bound as is. It's always a good thing to add a focal point. An applique works well, or embroidery - as I said earlier, flowers and animals work well. In general, embellishment or details makes the price to up! I keep wanting to try beaded ribbon embroidery like Betyann Shaver does and never get around to it!

Sometimes when the emotions are tough and I get busy with the fabric with no plan, things seem to flow in surprising ways. Creating is a great way to pour out emotions. A fabulous idea for repurposing fabric. I hope you haven't given up on your BOM. There is a lot of help out there for that too.

Glad to have you on board. A BIG Hug too. Clara

And if you want to treat yourself and buy one of these great quilts, then always (and I mean ALWAYS) click on every picture and look at the larger version. You'd be surprised how often that makes a big difference. Two of the quilts I bought did nothing for me in the small version, but simply had to make the trip across the big pond when I saw the larger picture.

Just imagine what would happen if only 10% of TQS members would treat themselves to one little quilt as a birthday treat....

I understand. When I go to the Houston Quilt Show every year they have a booth set up. First off the energy in the booth from the ladies that work there is insane. Clearly they love what they do and give it their all. Now, I know that when I go there I am going to get a quilt. So, I just get into the moment and enjoy looking. You are surprised all the time with unexpected details in so many creative ways. Even in person a quilt that might be a little interesting from a far, get up close and WOW that's really cool. Last year I brought back 8.

It is a simply brilliant idea to have a little package to let yourself go on. A little sample of a quilter for a great purpose.
