That is such a beautiful quilt (had to goggle it!) but I am still on a quest this year to finish up projects I have started. One done but in 9 days I am on vacation for seven weeks--quilting here I come!!!

Thanks Debbie. I know how projects can build up. My quilting life has been side tracked up until recently so I am looking forward to starting the project along with a couple of others. I usually have three projects going at one time. Seven weeks...wow.....enjoy your quilting time!

I have to admit that I had not heard of this lady before and had to google this quilt, wow wow wow what a wonderful quilt this is, and how interesting.

I would have loved to join you Nance but at the moment I have 19 quilts I want to start/finish and or at different stages at this time AND I am doing Ricky Tim's BOM sooooooooo just cant at the moment but I would certainly love to perhaps next year.

I have not had a chance to look for long but I can see a book she has, so in the book is this one quilt with many different xmas blocks, is the patterns for each block in the book and do you know how big the blocks are or are they all different sizes, also do you know how big the quilt is if its only one quilt, hope you dont mind me asking somany questions Nance.

I saw the quilt a couple of years ago at Paducah. It is fascinating and beautiful. Makes you feel like a child at Christmas again! If I remember right it is a fairly large quilt. I would love to make it, but am loaded with projects now.

Jilly, with that many quilts in the works I can understand your reluctance to start another one. My quilting time is limited but I usually have 3 going at once. One that I am hand quilting, one that I am hand appliquing and one I am designing in EQ for sometime in the future.
Margo, thanks for adding the link. I was going to do that today after I tried adding my signature but you beat me to it!
You are so helpful and quick on the draw.
Cathy, it is a large quilt and I am sure it will take me quite a while to make since I have limited quilting time. But, I think it will be fun as well as challenging. I am sure I will still be at it in a year. If you are ready to join in then let me know. I just received an email from Mary Buvia responding to a question I had about some of the dimensions of the background areas. She was very kind to respond so quickly. So, I think I am ready to jump in!

gee Margo thanks for the zoom quilt.....@$#%$#%^$@%^........as now I definitely want to make it....

Nance after looking at it close up you could almost make this out of your stash except for some colours, how are you doing it with yours, with the bricks do you know how they are made, I am not sure if it’s one piece of fabric with very thin sashing strips sewn on and used to make the brick effect or if its brick shaped blocks sewn with a thin sashing strips for the brick effect, I myself would use one piece of fabric and then the iron on 1/4inch bias tape you can buy (in black silver or gold) and use the silver, although looking at it again it actually looks like that anyway, would be interested to know.

Also the stone arch looks like trapunto stones on grey fabric........very interesting.

Margo the more I look at the quilt the more I see a lot of trapunto which is easy enough to do, or is it just the quilting that puffs most of the pieces out, what say you or anyone else for that matter.

And and and I am retired now...................

Jill, you could very easily use your stash. In the original quilt she used Fairy Frost by Michael Miller, over 72 different colors. I like the icy shimmery effect of the Fairy Frost so I may use a combo of
                          Fairy Frost and my stash.
As far as the bricks are concerned I"ll be using 1 background fabric and use freezer paper technique to applique the bricks in sections.
The stones in the arch are done pretty much the same way; each stone is appliquéd to the background mortor. She does not mention trapunto in the instructions but I don't see why you couldn't do it.
I am still drawing out the Master pattern for the background areas to be sure the sizing is correct and to help with placement. This is certainly not a quilt that will be made quickly. I will be hand appliquing the majority the quilt so it will be slow going. But, I love hand work and because the patterns are all different, it won't get boring!

I am in the process of getting fabrics, copying, and items for The Loading Dock quilt...am excited but a little intimidated by the pattern...Mary Buvia has been exceptional on replying to my emails...very helpful response. If anyone has gotten past the master pattern stage, would you post your progress. It would encourage me and probably others to continue to work on the pattern...I just love, love the pattern and will enjoy the process I HOPE. Thanks, Meme Peggy
