would like a jacket pattern for strips

Anyone know where I could find one?

I would do it by using any pattern that you like and cutting it out in muslin then sew and flip the strips on :?

Sounds good. I was also thinking of getting Karen Eckmeier's book on making jackets out of sweatshirts. It looked nice on the front of the book. Will check Joann's for a pattern also. Thanks, Wendy

What about looking at Nancy's notions? I get their catalog and there seem to be a lot of that type of pattern in there. Everything in the catalog is on the website, I'm sure.

If you decide to do a jacket on a sweatshirt be sure to buy one at least two sizes bigger than what you normally wear. Taking the sweatshirt apart to sew on it and the sewing shrinks it a lot. (ask me how I know!!!!!!) One of my friends who usually wears a medium started with a large and ended up with a jacket that fit her six year old granddaughter. This was a bargello design so lots of sewing but the amount of shrinkage was amazing to say the least. I would recommend using a muslin base but even with that I would cut it extra large. You can always trim the pattern down at the end but there is no easy way to make it larger. Hugs, Ann

Thanks,Ann. I recently quilted a baby bib and it shrunk so that it wouldn't fit around a neck of any average baby. So I just added straps and that was an easy lesson. I haven't heard any thank you from the mom or grandmom, so maybe it wasn't workable. Newborns probably don't use bibs always for bottles anyway. I was checking out toddler necks in church,LOL. I also gave them some other stuff, but they are probably so swamped with the baby responsibilities that thank yous are not possible. In a recent quilt class I took the teacher had some lovely coats she made. she had the fabric quilted first then cut it out with the pattern.

I would suggest that you keep to simple shape patterns. Try to avoid darts if at all possible, if you need darts you would probably be better looking for a pattern that has separate panels so that the shaping is on the seam lines - think 'Princess' seams.

Hi, Rosemary, I haven't been sewing much. I have a new job and I'm taking an online course that takes up time. It's a busy time of year. Maybe next summer. Thanks for the ideas. I miss being on here. Jan
