My first book was the Log Cabin in a Day book by Eleanor Burns. I'd never made a quilt, knew little about sewing, knew less about my machine, but was still convinced I was going to have this beautiful quilt at the end of the day.

My first quilting book was The Quilters Complete Guide by Fons and Porter. I still use it for reference.

My first book was the same one Ricky Tims started with - I can't recall the exact name but it was something like Learn to Quilt in 21 Beginning Lessons or something like that. I still have it somewhere buried in my stuff.

I have to admit, quilting BOOKS are almost as addictive as QUILTING! All those color photos of beautiful quilts! All those new techniques! All those close-ups of quilts I have seen on TV or elsewhere!

I can't remember what my first book was, but I remember my last one: Feathers & Urns by Ricky Tims (bought it Sunday -- but don't tell my husband!)

I agree that quilting books are adictive. I have picked out my next 50 quilts and I'm still buying books!

My first book was "Quilting by Hand" by Jinny Beyer

My first quilt book was back in the early 1960s, Quilt Lover's Delight, from Aunt Martha's Studios, Inc. I recently found a copy to buy, since my first one was lost years ago in a move. The first quilt I made was on page 3, called Diamond Star.

I bought a few magazines initially, but my very first quilting book was........ drum roll, please........ Ricky's Convergence book. I had no idea what it was all about. I just loved the colours and the pictures. It took a couple of years before I had the courage to try my own convergence.

I loaned my 1st book to my DSIL in hopes she would try quilting so I don't remember the name. When we moved to our new house, one of the rooms had a patchwork looking star in a wallpaper border. I went to the LQS for fabric to make pillows with a star pattern. Those wonderful ladies steered me to a book that took you through the instructions for a sampler quilt and helped me pick out fabric. My 1st quilting project was those pillows. And the rest is history.

My first quilting books were from the library. I'm pretty sure I've checked them all out at least twice!

My first book was "Quiltmaking" by Susan Denton and Barbara Macey. I probably got it in 1987 or so, it's copyrighted 1987. It's an Australian book, maybe some of our TQS members in Oz have it or heard of these women? Anyway, it's the first book I bought, but I didn't take the plunge into quilting until around 2000. I could kick myself for not taking it up sooner, but oh well. This book has some really striking quilts in it, I think the cover quilt reflects the way my quilting style is developing, it's a very bold, graphic, modern log-cabin... of course I didn't even know that then, I just liked the way it looked! Not sure that I'd love it for teaching me technique as a beginner, I learned most of THAT from Simply Quilts...

I have over 225 quilting books and I do not know how many magazines... it takes a book shelf 6 feet high to house them all. I have been collecting them for years.

I have not added them to my catalouge list in a while I bet I have over 250 by now. So far I have all the books mentioned here.

My favorite books are about different / new techiques... I do not get pattern books per say as technique books come with patterns too.

My first book was by Maryanne Fons. A book about drawing your own feather designs. Even on my first quilt (wedding quilt for my sister) I wanted as much of the work to be my own creation as possible. No "just follow the direction" books for me. Betty Ann in Florida

My first quilting book was You Can Be A Super Quilter by Carla Hassle--bought it in the early 1980's.
