    Gelli Prints class

    Questions:
Dee, I was recently given a set of Faber Castell Gelatos. Is this the same thing as Gelli Prints? Could the Gelatos be used like gelli prints?
Also, are the gelli prints colorfast?

    Thank you,
    Judy

Hi Dee, enjoyed your class for the Gelli Prints. I had previously heard of, but not seen it in use. Some day when I get moved, as you have, and resettled I will give it a try. I think most all of your prints today were quite good and had possibilities. Thanks for all your great ideas. Judy in Virginia

Thanks for this video- the technique is fascinating! One tip- when mixing paints, try using turquoise(cyan) and magenta instead of blue and red for your primary colors. I learned this from joen wolfrom’s workshops and have had much less “muddy” colors when I use those instead. If I want them muddy, I can add gray and that works well too.

        Judith,
The gelatos are a marking tool that you could use on your gel plate but it is not the same as a gel plate. If you use a marker or paint that is not permanent you need to use a fabric medium with it, and depending on the product it can be heat set. Enjoy trying out a gel press. It is quite fun.

          Shelley,
Thanks for the reminder of the cyan and magenta. I use those all the time in my quilting and color classes. I guess I was using paint and had a moment of forgetfulness. Good suggestions. Thank you.

            Hi Dee,
I truely enjoyed the Gelli Print show. I have ordered the gelli tray and roller, cannot wait to start printing. I have some blocks I cut out
for a quilt, but thought they were too dull. I ice dyed them and they turned out too light, so I am excited to make them for quilt worthy.
Since I prepared the fabric for dying, I shouldnt have a problem with the gelli prints on that same fabric should I? (question)
            Thanks,
            Karen

You shouldn't have any trouble at all. Your gel print should look great on your dyed fabric as it will become your first layer. Enjoy!
