    Flanged bindings

I visited the Texas quilt museum last week and was privileged to see Ricky Tims’ exhibition there. He presents such beautiful pieces, and I noticed the detail he put into his bindings- layers of flanged bindings! I had to ask a volunteer what the technique was called. I don’t run into these bindings too often and want to know if Ricky could do a segment on your show discussing how he decides to do these bindings, how he picks the colors or decides on the layers, and demonstrating how he actually makes them. It would be great foundational knowledge to have. Thank you!

I will pass this on to him. It is a great binding technique, one that is handy to have in your toolbox.

Ricky's GRAND FINALE DVD is available FREE for Star Members. I found it easily by using the SEARCH THE WEBSITE box at the top of any page on the website. I entered Flanged Binding--Ricky calls this Piped Binding. Here is the direct link:

Starting about 1:30 in the video, you will see detailed, step-by-step instructions for Ricky's binding technique. I was reminded I should try this again on the next small quilt I make--it is completely machine-sewn.

Ricky is glad his DVD is available free for Star Members. It is his detailed explanation of his process.

The SEARCH box will present a world of great info--just take a look!
