Here's a pulley system that might work for you:

i measure from the floor to the height that i want, then i do it for the other hole/s.
i make a little mark with a pan, then to be sure, i light a beam of lazier pointer to see if they are on the same line.
      good luck.

Thanks for that Connie. It looks like it works in the same way as a roman blind. I have a very high stairwell that I wanted to make wall hangings for too but just couldn't figure out how to make it easy to hang and change out quilts.

That looks like a great system. I'll have to bookmark that for future reference.

I haven't done this yet on a big wall quilt yet, but I"m thinking about it...
I usually put a hanging sleeve on the back of my wall quilts. And I Was thinking of putting a metal rod in a sleeve and using magnets on the wall.

I did a similar thing on a couple of small letter paper sized quilts. I put a metal thumbtack in the wall. and stuck my quilts to them with a magnet buried inside my quilt. I made these little quilts to go on the fridge so I quilted a little magnet into the quilt. I put the magnet in before I quilted the layers. I stitched around the magnet to hold it and had to remember not to quilt over it and break my needle. Anyway I just put the quilts on the thumbtacks to hold them up because I didn't like them on my fridge. A nail didn't have enough surface area, but a thumbtack was perfect and it doesn't leave a noticeable hole either.
