Design Suggestions Needed
Greetings y'all!
In my profile I have posted a green quilt top in my personal pics. It's for my youngest boy--it's his heirloom quilt. So far I'm really liking it and so is he! I bought some beads that I plan to use for embelishment. Right now I'm stumped for the quilting. :? I'll probly use purple verigated thread if it'll show up. The top isn't very big so machine quilting won't be too much of a wrestling match. So...anybody out there got any suggestions? Y'all are my guild and my bestest quilting buddies! I'm counting on you!
Thanx much!

First of all that quilt is absolutely gorgeous! Kudos to you for color choices and for the overall piecing and design of that quilt.
A few suggestions: I would use two maybe three different colors of thread so that the quilting really pops...green variegated on/near the purple; purple variegated on/near the greens and because of the color choices for the arcs there are so many other choices for color. I would keep it in the variegated so that there's depth of color. Looking at the color wheel on line blues, reds and oranges would work on this quilt. The fun thing would be finding the right ones that make the quilt sing.
I would also do some serious planning for the quilting before getting started. This quilt wants something that will truly compliment the incredible piecing. Because of the arcs (spikes) something soft and because of the curves (circles) something that will attract attention. If you have any vellum or clear plastic that you can try different ideas out on that would be great.
I can hardly wait to see this finished!
Happy Quilting!

Your quilt is very pretty I Like the pattern alot I have a tuff time picking out quilting designs myself and thread, there are just so many choices. I would quilt around the design,in the ditch first off so the design pops out then I would maybe quilt vine-ing leaves or vine-ing feathers. I Look foward to see your finished quilt. I Know your son will Love it.

Ok, when I was looking at your quilt, my eyes were playing tricks on me and I could see black shadows of all the colored areas popping up all over the dark background - it was like fireworks! (Tired eyes, I guess) Maybe, though, you could make the quilting look like fireworks. If you need some curves to soften the spikes, you could curl some of the fireworks out like they're fizzling out.
This is fun to have TQS to bounce ideas around. You get so many ideas and maybe one will spark another idea and that one will spark a memory and that will lead to the final perfect solution.
Beautiful quilt and Good luck!

Y'all are awesome! I knew i'd get some great suggestions! Teri--I made a "photo copy" of the top and have been playing with it under tracing paper. I want to be real sure before I start stitching. I agree with curves and flowing lines...maybe a gentle meandering flowing type of thing throughout. I'll diffenitly outline the design elements and I difinitly ignore the block seams . I like the firewirks idea too! Thanx so so much...I'll post my decisions and be sure to post a pic or two.

I try to be very careful about how to quilt for either a boy or girl. As much as I love feathers too, I'm not sure it would work for your son.
If you made it from a pattern, go to webshots.com and type in the name of the quilt. You might get hundreds of pictures of how different people quilted it.
I see it as stars in the sky. I might echo in the colors Teri was talking about, almost like the Northern Lights.
Just a couple of ideas,

I also wanted to tell you that your thread choices will be great, the colors will pop those quilting lines nicely. I thought that was a great idea,I know your Son will Love his Heirloom quilt and treasure moms heart & soul always, He is a nice young man.

Hi Y'all! I finished the quilt. Named it "The Future's so Bright!" Decided not to use the beads but they won't go to waste! I posted a blog (two actually) with pictures. Thanx for all the suggestions and encouragement!
