Renata, that is the same technique, but I cut my strips 1-3/4" and 1-1/2" (hers was 1-1/4") to get the very narrow "flange". She says to whip it down by hand from the front, but I stitched mine down by machine between the faux piping and the binding.

Rita....no beading yet!! It's only thread so far!

ops: I guess the eyes aren't as good as I thought! I thought they were beads on the wavy lines at the top, and around the heart. I should have increased the size to have a closer look. Looks great anyway.

Thanks Nancy. If you are careful about stitching the binding on with a seam allowance the right width to cover the seam line, and match your bottom thread to your backing fabric, the seam is really not objectionable. Yes....it takes some time to pin it in place before you stitch, but binding like this on the back should be good enough for a judge, unlike the wrong thread on the back of my sky piece!

This photo should blow up enough for you to see the stitches:

I'm going to keep your strip widths for the binding, Margo. I really like the thinner looking faux piping, as you did it.

I'm going to try this too. I've been combining methods and making up my piped binding Ricky's way but then sewing it on like regular binding around the corners. It works great but this method looks much faster and uses no cord in the binding! Thanks for showing it. I have the magazine here next on my pile of ones to go through and throw away. Very timely.

I got lesson 4 (embroidery stitches) done.

My stitching isn't the greatest, but I'm still loving it. I used a wonderful light blue/pink/yellow size 5 pearl cotton from Laura Wasilowski in the sky. I really like the look, but it was tough to pop the knot through the back! The variegated orange I got in the kit worked well for the buds, but I picked some other threads from my stash for the rest of the stitching. Here's my bud and tulip blocks:

                              And my heart block:

I meant to try continental knots for the french knots, but I forgot so didn't get that tested out. I'm guessing my knots will be less lop-sided if I use the continental method. But I will certainly have other opportunities to try that.

I'm really looking forward to adding the beads! I want to add some beading to some other quilts so I really want to see what Lauren has to say about hiding your knots.
