Binder attachment
Hi,
I want to purchase binder attachment for my bernina 550QE machine.
I have never used this before and basically my intentions to purchase this is to help me to finish my quilt project.
Has anyone use this attachment before ?
How to bind it when approaching square corner?
Any tips or trick?
As this attachment does not come cheap and so I really need someone to advise me
My second question is , where can I purchase colorful cord for my couching foot?
What is the diameter of the cord?
Any store in mind?
Cheers

Hi Lilli, I saw this in the daily blog a while back - maybe you did too - but it shows how to use the binder foot.

As for cording, I would get that here in either a fabric shop or a haberdashery or anywhere that sells buttons and threads. I don't know what size cord you could use but I have a cording foot for my machine and I tried to use a rat-tail cord I had but the cord was too big (it was about 1/16th of an inch wide.)

Lilli, If you haven't looked at the Bernina videos, there are several there that might help you with your questions. They even discuss the kinds of cords you can use with cording feet and bindings. I have used Ricky Tim's/Superior Bedazzled, yarn, and several other cords for couching. Hope that helps.

Thx Betty
I had watch the link but sad to say, the demonstrator did not go further to show the corner square.
And of also, the quilt she used was so thin but what if the batting is thicker, can the attachment bind the quilt nicely ?
Where can I buy Ricky tims bedazzled yarn? At softexpressions or connecting threads?
You have any web page to recommend?
Cheers

Lili, if you are talking about Ricky's RAZZLE DAZZLE, you can order it from Superior Threads or from Ricky's website: http://www.rickytims.com/online-stor...category_id=14Originally posted by LiliGiakoumatosThx Betty

Hi all the expert quilters...
I am very new in machine quilting .
I need sound advise about Bernina 830 . :?
I read somewhere that B830 is not as good as it seems to be ..Especially it s not cheap n so we tend to have a higher expectation
The stitches skipped so often during the auto quilt on B830 and also it cannot handle mettalic threads too ..
Anyone out there has the same problems ...
I really want an advise ..

Lili, I have a B830 LE and absolutely love it. I have not had stitches skipping and metallic threads work fine if you set them up right. The thing about an 830 is that you have to learn how to use it. It is very advanced and has lots of ways to set up your tension and so forth (which is a very good thing if you are experimenting with threads and fabrics). If you don't take that time, it can be very frustrating and I think that 99 percent of the problems people have with it is not learning the machine. But it does more than any machine I have ever had. It sews so beautifully and I can do more with it than I ever have been able to with a domestic machine. It is expensive though, but I think it is worth the money if you are willing to learn to use it properly like any kind of advanced technology. I have a blog on using metallic threads in my personal blog. Metallics are a challenge for lots of machines.

You can skip basting IF you want puckers and pleats in your backing and top and for thing to get skewed and wonky. So in actual fact the answer is YES you will need to baste if you want your project to look the best it can - yes it can take up time, but it is preparation time that is extremely well spent, and not really worth skimping on.Originally posted by LiliGiakoumatosThx u Betty
What about the auto quilting ?
I am very keen with auto quilting because
I am so beginner n I just want the machine to help me to finish my
Project ...
Do we still need to do basting ?
There are lots of different methods - Straight pins, straight pins with Pinmores, safety pins, stitching by hand - either running stitch or using Sharon Schamber's method (available to see on youtube). You could put it into a large frame, baste it and then remove it from the frame for the quilting (that way the large frame is only up for a small amount of time, if you are pushed for space, or are going to be machine quilting). If stitching you have the choice of ordinary tacking cotton or using the washable thread (which dissolves in water - saves unpicking). Spray basting using 505 washable glue (or similar).
I think that is nearly all the techniques available, so you have lots to choose from to try and see which one works best for you.
