    Thread for machine piecing?

We are just looking at stocking thread for machine piecing - what does everybody use/recommend? Any input gratefully received!

I LOVE Aurifil 50 wt. and use it for all machine piecing. I tried Edyta Sitar's advice on using color #2370 for most piecing and so far it has worked wonderfully for me--I don't have a need for lots of different colors as a result. I purchase the 1300 meter reel. I have not tried Masterpiece by Superior yet so I cannot speak to it but I understand it is quite popular too. Hope this helps. Renata

I use the same as Renata and when I run out of that colour I have a grey aurifil that works well too. I have also used Superior's So Fine and Bottom Line. The 50wt seems to be the best for piecing because the thread is thin and doesn't affect the seam allowances too much. Hope that helps.

I used Aurifil for several years and was quite happy with it. Then I tried Superior's Masterpiece and love it. I also settle on a neutral color and use it all of the time so I like the 3000 yard cones in Parchment. Buying the larger cones saves money and I like not having to switch spools. They ship really fast and they are so pleasant. Just my 2 cents worth!

I use both Masterpiece and Aurifil, both 50 weight, in gray, or in a warm beige. I like them both equally.

Check out http://www.superiorthreads.com/shop/...e/description/ Masterpiece is recommended for piecing. Use a lighter tension but there is very little lint. I love it!

I use the Aurifil for piecing and love it, but now I am also going to have to try Masterpiece. Lois

I use MasterPiece, Bottom Line, So Fine and Aurifil as my mood is, but I must say that I love the polyester threads very much. They are so thin that you can make a perfect 1/4" seam every time

Thank you very much for all your input - I think we'll have a look at both Masterpiece and Aurifil. Much appreciated

I was recommended Belgian Sewing Thread cortal 120, by an excellent independant sewing machine sales & repairs man who has a shop in Banbury and really like how it sews. It comes in 1000m spools, and I can buy it mail order from them (or make a trip to Banbury when visiting my parents)

The e-mail for the Belgian Sewing Thread company is http://[email protected]

PS how did you get on with your pincushion?

There is also a 60 wt thread by Presencia that I have never seen, but I understand it is made for piecing. Has anyone used that one?

I've used 60 wt Presencia and found it sewed fairly clean and had no problems. Just not readily available for me.
Currently using varieties of Superior and Aurifil. I've others to use up so i can buy more colors !

I have used 60 wt presencia and it was a very nice thread but they don't carry it locally so I don't have it very often.
