A little late to this thread, but I am very much a thread snob. I recently went to the Minnesota Quilt Show and made one big purchase. It was my little tiny bag of threads that cost me a big bunch of money from Superior Threads but do I regret that purchase. Not one bit!!!!! I love my Superior threads. I have a source of Guiterman threads where I can get them at a very good price and for basic one color spools or some variagated colors I still use them. Those I use for piecing primarily. For my raw edge applique or quilting, King Tut or Rainbow are my threads of choice. Occasionally I use metallics and I have found Superior's metallics most reliable. I also use Monopoly for certain things. and then of course there is Ricky Tims Razzle Dazzle for bobbin quilting. Can you tell I am a fan!!!!!!! Not a paid representative in any way. In fact the biggest part of my Quilt show budget always goes to Superior. But their threads are the best and Superior Bob provides the best information so put me on the top of the fan list. Ann

Miss Ann,
I agree! And I notice that a big part of my show budget does always go to Superior, as well! I tried MasterPiece in the SoTTT exchange (for HSTs) and Wow! I loved how that lovely thread just melted in the seam for zero bulk. Never noticed bulk before, but felt like I could really tell the difference.

Me too, Roseanne! I grabbed some old thread to do some piecing recently and after sewing and pressing, switched back to Masterpiece for seams that set right into the fabric with no bulk. Surprising how much difference that little bit of bulk makes!

I have some threads that belonged to my Mother and she passed away 25 years ago they are in a drawer and that's where they are staying.
They are like rope but in those days there wasn't the choice we have now.
I too like superior threads and I'm looking forward to F.O.Q UK. to stock up.
For free motion embroidery my sewing machine loves Robison Anton and Madera especially their polyneon.

Anne, you are not the only one with a ton of old threads. I have just sorted through mine and about 90% are now in a box, waiting for the start of school. One of the art teachers loves it when she gets a box full of 'odds and sods' from me.

I have some antiquish threads also. I use a small amount of my mother's old thread on (nearly) every quilt..just a few inches of sewing...as a kind of tradition. But there really are a lot of threads in my collection that can go somewhere else.

The threads that I use the most are Aurifil, Superior and Isacord. Each brand does an excellent job of the purpose that it is meant for. For thread play my favourite is Isacord, with 390 colours to choose from. It does an excellent job and I have never had any problems with it and the results are beautiful.
