    when to use

i just received a box of rayon embroidery thread. size 120d/2.
i am not sure what this means. what i would like to know is, can i use this thread in my quilting. i applique and hand quilt. should i use this thread or not. please i need help.........

My understanding is rayon in not very strong so I might use it as a decorative stitch but I would not count on it hold things together. Bob from Superior Threads has lots of info on thread.

Rayon thread is not strong enough for piecing or quilting, but is beautiful for machine embroidery and other embellishing.

I've heard that some rayon threads aren't colour fast, if you're using a high contrast thread you might want to do a run test first.

I quilt with rayon thread all the time -- most recently on a little boy's quilt that receives hard use. I've had no problems. The brand I'm using is Madiera.

Has anyone had any problem with rayon thread shrinking more than others when washed? I have had some of my embroidery seem to shrink more, but it might be something I did.
