    Alex Anderson's Masterpiece thread

I'm having trouble with the thread breaking during normal piecing, any tips to prevent this? I went back to my tried and true Mako, but have a bit invested in the Masterpiece thread, so would like to use it....

May I have a bit more information please?
Where is the thread route is it breaking?
What size needle are you using?
Is the thread coming off the spool in a clockwise direction?

I've been having the same problem. I have the spool standing up, label side up. It doesn't start doing that until I'm about half way through the spool. One of the things that helps is slowing down the speed of the machine. It is breaking near the needle I think.

I think in the 400 series Thread Guy went through a step by step evaluation of why thread breaks. It should be posted on SUPERIOR web pages.... If you do all that he says then give them a call..

THEY STATED IN THE PROGRAM they would reimburse or make good on the problem thread they just want to make sure it is not do to something else that could be fixed.... ie tension adjustments, operator error, problem with the machine, etc.

Check out the web page ... trouble shoot... then contact them...

On Surerior threads you will find the guide on how to find out why your threads breake. I have used it many times if I have issues with my thread. I have to say though, I am a new user of Surperior threads (only my last 2 quilts). But I have experienced the problems to many times with other brands. Most often the thread is breaking because I have done something "wrong".

I love Masterpiece, and have never had a problem......on my Janome 6500. My Janome 1600 hates it and breaks very quickly! As the operator is a common factor here, I just don't use Masterpiece on that machine. She is very fussy about a lot of threads, but she does like Superior's So Fine!

I have switched over to using So Fine for piecing. I never have a problem with it and I get less lint build up with it.

I had the same problem with this thread, but I only purchased 4 spools so didn't have a lot invested. I was using it on a Pfaff performance 2054. After a number of breaks (which I haven't had with any other threads I use on this machine) I eventually discovered it was happening mostly when I was using the needle down position when there was no fabric under the needle while chain piecing or while going over humps when assembling blocks. So I switched to another Pfaff that didn't have the needle down option and had only an occasional breakage on it. But that was still too much for me so I'm no longer using this thread. I understand that an adjustment in your bobbin case might help but I didn't want to adjust mine since it works fine with all other brands of threads that I've used so far.

I had the same problem with this thread. I have a Pfaff. Maybe the thread is made for the Bernina machines? I gave all my thread to a friend who has a Bernina. Oh...... My Gammill hated this thread. :-(

I have used Masterpiece for many, many happy miles. Never any breakage or other problems with my Janome 6500. I've heard people say their machine doesn't like brand x and they can't use something. I'm so happy to have a machine that hasn't turned its nose up to anything

I had breakage with the Masterpiece thread on my Bernina 435, so I went back to Mettler thread and had no problem. I don't have time or patience for thread breakage. I used the Masterpiece on my Singer Featherweights and it did fine. Come to think of it, though, both of my Featherweights have had stitching problems lately--maybe I ought to try a different thread and see if that's the problem!

I've used Masterpiece, on the cone on both my Pfaffs (2140 and 2170), with the needle up and down, and and haven't had any troubles what so ever. I love this thread, and won't use anything else to piece with. I do only use either Graystone or Raven to do all my piecing depending on what color my fabric is. But I stopped buying colors to match my fabric a long time ago, and found that using either grey or black is more cost effective as what ever is left from one project can be used on the next. And I no longer have partial spools of thread of all different colors laying around not getting used.

For the first time ever I had problems with Masterpiece breakage. I used it happily and successfully on my 630--never a break and no lint. Now the 830 is a bit more fussy in that it appears to require more adjustments for various threads. Maybe it is the speed? :? I've considered the usual suspects and made changes. It is not a horrible problem, just something I've noticed.

As to lint -- the 830 seems to be a lint factory no matter what thread I use. Couple that characteristic with the bitty pieces left from automatic thread cutting and I'm constantly cleaning out the bobbin area.

Aha, a Bernina design oversight - the 830 should have come with a built in vacuum cleaner
