Supplies for embroidering
Hi Folks
Have downloaded some great designs for 'in-the-hoop' projects. One is a pot holder. You need pre quilted fabric, metal faced fabric (like ironing board material) and heat proof wadding. I have searched online and can only find the w3adding, anyone seen any of the others in your travels? Would really like to buy in UK, as quicker delivery and less postage!!!
Thanks
Lynn

And I have some fabric that goes in place mats that I think you may be able to use it. Its very bumpy on one side. I have lots of it. Send me your address and I can send it.....maybe we can make a trade for the designa you have for the pot holders.

Wow, this is just what I love about the site, did a post, whipped up to start some sewing and whoosh! two replies!!!! Thanks so much for getting back to me, if only the sewing had gone so well! Went up to change the thread to find that the needle had broken and a birds nest underneath! started to cut it away and the two Jack Russells started to fight, broken glass and water everywhere!!!!! Anyway, someone has emailed me with info on a site that sells prequilted fabric so that is sorted. It is just the heat resistant stuff that I cannot find, I was going to buy ironing board covers and cut them up, but that will be an expensive way to do it. I looked up JoAnn's in the states as you folks mention it a lot, but although they do sell it, it is out of stock!!!! So this must be a popular project. I cannot say that they will end up cheaper than buying as took daughter shopping for supplies and she ended up with a jewellery making kit, book and tools!!!!!!! Still she did cook tea for me and very nice it was too.
Thanks again
Best wishes
Lynn in very cold UK

Lynn, Superior Threads has pre-wound bobbins in many colors. You'll have to check to see if your Bernina will be able to use the pre-wound bobbins. When I took my class at my Bernina dealer, some machines could not use them. I have an Aurora 435 and it will use them. I use the pre-wound bobbins for hand applique--it makes my projects very portable. Judy in Torrance

Sharing of designs is most likely a copyright violation. With most digitizers, they don't allow their designs to be shared, traded or sold, epsecially if they were downloaded from their site. And even if trading were allowed, if she traded her designs for your fabric, then she would not be able to keep copies of those designs, and she wouldn't have them to use for her project.Originally posted by WaylandAnd I have some fabric that goes in place mats that I think you may be able to use it. The best idea, if you wanted to make your own potholders, is to either get a link to the designs she has, so you can purchase your own, or find ones on your own.

Thanks Judy, do you use them for machine embroidery? I have heard that they are wound tighter than our machines can manage, and tonight ended up with a birds nest and had to cut fabric out of machine because the bobbin got jammed in the socket! Thought I had wound it ok, but it looked loose and thready when I took it out!

My local JoAnn's sells 2 versions of the "heat resistant" fabric. One is simply a silver fabric that's a bit like a duck cloth. Another comes already pre-quilted and has the silver on one side. Both are considered ironing board covering material and work well for pot holders. However, I made my husband some oven mitts and he says it doesn't protect enough. Maybe double batting would have helped for those.

Lynn, I'm always on the look-out for new products to stock, so let me know if there's anything you can't find in the UK (I don't always keep up with the forums). If you like the stuff you've bought, I'll get some in if you could let me know any details. It sounds a useful addition to the insul-bright which always sells well.
I don't think there are any pre-wound bobbins that fit the 630, someone gave me one to try but it didn't fit. At least the 630 bobbins are quite big, my old Pfaff had really skinny ones that seemed to run out every 5 minutes :x .
