Well as you learned Sharpie pens will always run. In the future, always use PIGMA Micron pens. They come in a ton of colors and I prefer the 01 size point.Originally posted by ConnieinOhioI used a purple Sharpie pen to fill in some machine embroidery that was too light and had a dirty mark on another area of the quilt and I gently washed and dried the quilt. Now this ink has run. What can I do?? This is to be a Special Christmas gift.

You could try Grandma's stain remover but it works best on stains that are fresh and before any other washing and drying.
Is it possible to add some more 'bling' to the item to cover up the oops?

Hi All,
I want to thank the ladies who answered my call for help. I was just in a tither. I know the subject had been discussed before but I am search-challenged on this forum for some reason. I did have some Synthrapol and Retayne here and got most of it out. As I said this is to be a very special Christmas gift and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and then this happened. For some reason I thought Sharpie pens were permanent since I can use them on sooo many other things that other pens do not work on, like CDs and DVDs. This was a very hard lesson to learn. I will post a photo on my site soon.

I use them for signature quilts and have no problem with running -- except that they must be heat-set before getting wet. Perhaps this is your problems.
I personally dislike Pigma pens and find that I (and most people) find them very difficult to write with because they have such fine points.

I agree with you on writing with very fine point PIGMA pens, but for touching up a small area of embroidery that didn't get properly covered, they are invaluable.
